Chapter 652 Retracing the Steps - III
Damien sneaked out of the carriage when the noise outside fell silent.
His head was feeling heavy, his body was aching from the travel, and he could feel that his body was in desperate need of some aura.
"Let's find some angry people," he thought to himself and slowly strolled around in search of his food.
Even after walking around the guest house for quite a while now, he didn't come across one angry person. The people from the guest house were happy that they were hosting not one but five Royals. And the guests were tired like him, no one was angry.
"Why is it so hard to find some red aurae? Why is everyone here emitting such positive aurae? Argh!" Damien was becoming grumpier by the second.
He sat in one corner and waited to see if anyone would release the aura that he needed. While he waited, he kept track of the rooms where everyone was staying at. And he was a little relieved that the hybrid didn't take the room that was right adjacent to Ariel.
Damien was starting to get slightly light-headed now. His body needed the energy sooner than later.
"I better take a walk outside. If I am lucky, I will find what I need. Else, I will make the humans release the aura that I need."
Keeping that in mind, Damien slipped out of the guest house while the Royals were in their bath.
After walking some distance with staggering feet, Damien undid the two spells that were draining away his leftover energy.
"Ah! This is a little better." Damien instantly felt his head getting lighter.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Soon enough, he arrived at the central street of the town.
And he was garnering a lot of attention.
For one, he couldn't hide his otherworldly appearance. He was tall and had a sturdy build. His upturned eyes, sharp nose, well-proportioned lips, and sharp jawline was attracting the eyes of most young women. And to add, the maverick vibe he was giving off was just cherry on top.
And secondly, his getup didn't quite blend perfectly with the people around him. Read exclusive content at empire
Damien disregarded the eyes that were on him. He kept on walking while looking for the subtle red aurae. However, right now, he was surrounded by the soft pink ones.
Damien frowned at those soft pink aurae and thought to himself, "What the hell is wrong with everyone in this town? Are everyone here perverts or something? Why are they so lustful?"
He aimlessly wandered around the streets of that town in search of the right aurae. He thought of picking a fight just to anger some people. But he went against it since he didn't want any more eyes on him than he already had.
After about an hour or more, he finally came across an old man who was angry at his grandson for always wanting to buy new clothes and making him spend a lot of money. He kept on scolding that young man as the two of them entered a clothing store.
Damien smiled and went after them. He stood outside the shop and pretended to be interested in one of the clothes that were hung outside. He absorbed all the aura that the old man was emanating and harnessed it to fuel his body.
It was too little, but it was better than nothing.
"With this much energy, I think I can comfortably hide my aura." Damien cast the spell to hide his overwhelming ash-grey aura.
He then smiled and heaved a sigh. "Okay, now let's hunt some more."
He was about to leave the shop when the shopkeeper came outside and greeted him, "Young master, I think the shirt that you are looking at will suit you. Would you like to try it on?"
Damien was startled when that shopkeeper approached him because, for a split second, he had forgotten that he was visible.
He gave a polite smile to that shopkeeper and denied, "Oh, I like it but I am not carrying any money with me right now. I will–"
Damien suddenly widened his eyes. He was so focused on finding the aurae that were compatible with his body that he had ignored the others. And he was stunned when he suddenly became aware that, right now, he was being surrounded by the light-blue aura.
"Oh, no! Ariel must be near! I should hide!" Damien thought to himself.
He swiftly turned on his heels, kept his head down, and walked as fast as a normal human would.
He escaped away from that light-blue aura quickly. However, the aura caught up to him soon enough.
"What? Did Ariel see me? Is she following me?" Damien turned his head and took a quick peek.
As he had suspected, he saw Ariel slipping in through the crowd and walking in his direction. And the others weren't in view.
"No, no, no! I can't be found out like this. I need some more time before I appear in front of Ariel." Damien thought to himself and picked up his pace. It wasn't that easy to move since the street had become busier than when he had arrived earlier.
To his relief, he came across a desolate alley. It was more of a dumpster than an alley. There were some street dogs there, and also some wasted people loitering around. He quietly walked into that alley and looked around for a place to hide. He located a giant dustbin in the corner.
He went behind that dustbin and crouched down. "I hope Ariel won't come looking for me here."
However, among all the chattering from the main street, Damien heard Ariel taking his name.
"Damien… was that not you?"
His eyes widened when he heard Ariel's soft and breathless whisper. "She did see me! And she… she did try to get a hold of me…"
Damien felt like getting up and going in front of Ariel. He wanted her to see him.
But at the same time, he wanted to be sure of a lot of things.
He held his breath and stayed as still as he could. And he prayed, "Please, Ariel, just walk away for now. I don't want to be found just yet."
Damien was focusing his attention to see if he would hear Ariel's voice again. However, he was distracted when he heard a man who was lying down on the ground a little further away from him.
"Aah! Would you look at those fuller hips?" that man elbowed another wasted man and spoke while glaring towards the entrance of the alley, "I want to squeeze those hips so bad. Mmh… I want to taste her. I am already hard just by looking at her from here. I can't wait to get my hands all over her body."
Damien's winter-grey eyes suddenly turned blood-red when he heard those lustful words of that man. He was sure who that man was gawking at.
And to make it even worse, that man started to touch himself while ogling Ariel and making disgusting noises.
Damien felt so repulsed by that man's disrespect towards Ariel that he wanted to snap that man's head that instant. However, he clenched his fists and suppressed his anger. He didn't want to create a scene.
To be more precise, after being apart for so many years, he didn't want his first image in Ariel's eyes to be him killing a man. That was definitely not how he wished to reunite with her.
Damien clenched his jaw and glared at that man with his fiery eyes. He memorized that man's face and he swore, "You are already a dead man."
