Chapter 1010: Not You
Chapter 1010: Not You
Lucas leaned against the doorframe of the living room, watching Amy as she animatedly recounted the events of Sonia's labor and the impromptu hospital baby shower.
Her hands waved in the air, and she paced back and forth, her words tumbling out in rapid succession.
"And then Candace's heels snapped right in the middle of rushing Sonia into the car!" Amy exclaimed, her face bright with laughter. "She was hopping around, yelling at Jade to hurry up, and poor Sonia was just glaring at all of us, trying not to scream. I don't even know how they managed to get her to the hospital without her biting someone's head off."
Lucas chuckled, his grin widening as he watched her. Her excitement was infectious. She was glowing- not the kind of glow people talked about when they meant makeup or good lighting, but a deep, radiant energy that came from within.
"Lucy looked scared like you could tell she was picturing herself in Sonia's shoes-" Amy stopped mid-step, catching his gaze. "Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked, her head tilting in curiosity.
Lucas folded his arms across his chest, his grin turning mischievous. "I'm fascinated by you."
She laughed, shaking her head as she plopped down on the couch. "Fascinated? That's a fancy word for someone who didn't even let you get out of your clothes before I started rambling like a lunatic."
Lucas chuckled, "I wasn't complaining. Besides, I wouldn't call it rambling," he teased, going to sit down beside her. "It was more like... passionate storytelling."
Amy rolled her eyes, but her smile remained. "Don't mind me. Go freshen up while I set up the table."
"I mind you. I can tell you've been waiting all evening to tell me the story. Continue with it before you forget some part," he said with a teasing smile and Amy giggled before launching into the remaining part of the story, while Lucas laughed as he listened to her.
"I would have felt really terrible that I wasn't there to witness it, had you not been there. Thanks for taking note of all that happened for my sake. Now I feel like I was there in person," Lucas said with a grin as he kissed her cheek.
"Now that you're up to date with all that happened in your absence, you can go freshen up while I..."
"Or we can freshen up together," he said with a wink and she giggled.
"I freshened up already," she said, pulling away as Lucas moved closer to her.
"It won't hurt to freshen up again. And who knows, I might be able to reach areas you couldn't reach before," he said suggestively and she laughed again.
"I reached every area, thanks. I've been reaching them for years before you showed up," she said dryly.
"Killjoy," Lucas muttered as he rose, making her laugh.
As Lucas headed for the bedroom, Amy went over to the kitchen to heat up their dinner and while she was still standing by the microwave with her back to the door, Lucas snuck in.
Amy perceived his cologne and just as she turned to face him, he wrapped his arms around her waist, making her screech with laughter as he lifted her off her feet.
"What are you doing?" She asked, laughing.
"Did you really think I will take no for an answer?" He asked as he carried her to the room while she laughed.
Once they got to her bedroom, he carefully set her on her feet and turned her to face him, his eyes gleaming with love and amusement.
"Let's go freshen up together. Next time you'd wait for me to get back so we do it together. Unless you plan to shower twice every evening," he said, and she giggled.
Together they undressed and went in to freshen up together and when they were done they sat down to have dinner.
"So, how was work today?" Amy asked with interest as they ate.
"Work was okay," Lucas said, and Amy grinned.
"Did any nurse or patient hit on you?" She asked, and Lucas chuckled.
"Yes," Lucas said with a nod.
"Was anyone as pretty as me?" she asked with a playful gleam in her eyes.
"I don't think anyone is as pretty as you, but even if they were, I wouldn't know because I
didn't even look at any," he said with a chuckle and she laughed.
"How did you treat your patients if you didn't look?" she asked with a teasing smile.
"With my eyes closed," he said, and she laughed.
"Liar," she said playfully as they continued to eat.
After they were done with dinner and once the kitchen was clean, they settled on the couch. Amy curled up beside Lucas and he wrapped an arm around her shoulders as they watched the television together.
After a while Lucas leaned back, studying her face. "Do you ever feel bad that the procedure failed and you didn't get pregnant as planned?"
The question was gentle, but it took her by surprise and made her pause. She looked down at her hands, her fingers playing with the hem of his shirt. "No," she admitted, her voice softer now. "I mean, I wanted to. For her. It felt like the right thing to do at the time, but I don't feel bad that it didn't work."
Lucas nodded, his gaze steady. "You would've been far along by now."
Amy sighed, leaning back against the couch. "Yeah. The thought crossed my mind earlier. But honestly? I think it worked out for the best. I've learned to look forward, not backward." She glanced at him, a small smile playing on her lips. "If I had been pregnant, I doubt we'd be here like this."
Lucas raised an eyebrow, curiosity flickering in his eyes. "Why do you say that?"
"Think about it," she said, turning toward him. "Would you have considered being in a relationship with me if I was carrying Miley's child?"
Lucas's lips twitched as he thought about it. "It's possible. I knew the circumstances behind it. It probably wouldn't have changed how I see you."
Amy chuckled, shaking her head. "Things would've been very different, that's for sure. And I don't think you'd have talked to me at all. As much as I loved Miley, I'm glad it didn't work out. I wouldn't have wanted to carry Malone's child. That guy is a bastard."
Lucas nodded in agreement. "That's true." Lucas tilted his head, a playful smile forming. "What about you? Would you have been with me if I had agreed to Miley's request and fathered her child?"
Amy laughed, a deep, genuine sound. "As long as you didn't sleep with Miley. That would've been a dealbreaker."
He smirked. "You two shared everything else. Why not me?"n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Amy giggled, her laughter light and free. "Nope. Not you. Never," she said with a mock- serious tone, wagging a finger at him. "Miley would've understood."
The laughter between them softened into a comfortable silence. Amy rested her head on Lucas's shoulder, her smile lingering. "I'm glad we can talk about her like this. Without
feeling so sad and broken."
Lucas placed a hand over hers, his voice warm. "Me too."
"I'm glad you knew her. It would have been sad marrying someone who didn't know her or
care for her like you did," Amy said as she looked up at him, her eyes soft.
Lucas smiled, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "You think so?"
"Yeah."
"Don't tell me that was the reason you chose me," Lucas said, and Amy's smile widened.
"Shit! You caught me. My secret has been exposed now," she said with mock horror.
Lucas chuckled, his tone turning serious. "Speaking of Miley, what do you think about naming our daughter Miley when we have one?"
Amy blinked, her mouth forming a small "o" before breaking into a grin. "You're serious?"
"Dead serious," Lucas said. "I think it'd be perfect. We might not have been able to give her a child, but we can name ours after her."
Her eyes sparkled. "You're such a gem, Luca. Have I ever told you how much I love you?"
Lucas shook his head, "Nope. I keep wondering how much," he said, and she giggled.
"Well, you're not hearing it from me today," she said, and Lucas chuckled.
"Spoilsport," he muttered and she laughed.
"What if we don't have a girl?" Amy asked after some time.
Lucas's grin turned playful. "I've been researching how certain positions can influence a
baby's gender. We could, you know, practice a bit. Let's start now."
Amy laughed, her cheeks flushing. "You're so naughty!"
"Thoughtful you mean," he said with a wink his laughter joining hers.
"Do you know the name Miley is derived from Smiley?" Amy asked, and Lucas raised a brow.
"Really? Then if we have a girl we call her Miley, and if it's a boy we call him Smiley," he
suggested with a grin and Amy giggled.
"I'm not subjecting my son to such a name," she said, and Lucas grinned.
"Then I suggest we start practicing the style. Who knows, we might get it right by the time we
are ready to make babies," he said with a wink as he rose.
Amy laughed out loud as he carried her off the couch and to the bedroom.
