Chapter 1009: Scary And Awesome

Chapter 1009: Scary And Awesome

"What's going on?" Tom asked Bryan as he hung up the call with Jade and turned to him, his face pale.

"It's Sonia. She's gone into labor-early. I can't believe this is happening now. She's not due for another month!"

Tom didn't hesitate. He tore off his jacket, throwing it onto the bench. "Let's go."

"You both can go. We will finish up here," Harry said, and both Philip and Lucas nodded in agreement.

"Thanks," Tom said as he hurried to catch up with Bryan who was already halfway out the door, his phone clutched tightly in his hand.

They sprinted to Bryan's car and Tom slid into the driver's seat and started the engine while Bryan fumbled with his seatbelt, muttering under his breath. "What if something's wrong? What if the baby-"

"Bryan," Tom cut in, his tone firm but calm. "Nothing is wrong. Sonia's going to be okay, and so is your baby."

Bryan nodded, but his hands still trembled. "I should been there with her. I should be the one taking her to the hospital-"

"Stop," Tom said, glancing at him briefly before focusing back on the road. "You didn't know this would happen. You're here now, and that's what matters."

Bryan nodded, but his knee continued to bounce nervously. Tom reached over and squeezed his shoulder. "Everything will be okay. Don't worry. Do we need to stop by your place for anything?" Tom asked but Bryan shook his head.

"Thankfully the maternity bag is in the car. We've been carrying it about for two weeks now," he said, and Tom nodded as he drove them to hospital.

The drive to the hospital felt like an eternity. Every red light had Bryan tapping his foot nervously, and every slow car in front of them had him clenching his fists and muttering curses under his breath.

When they finally pulled into the hospital parking lot, Bryan was out of the car before Tom had even turned off the engine. Tom jogged to catch up.

When they got inside the hospital, Jade was pacing the waiting room, her phone clutched in her hand.

"Where is she?" Bryan asked the moment she turned to them.

"She was taken into the labor and delivery theatre. Lucy went in with her," she said pointing in the direction of the theatre.

Bryan didn't wait for more details. He darted toward the labor and delivery theatre, leaving Tom and Jade behind.

"Did you call Mom?" Tom asked and Jade as they watched Bryan go.

"Yes. They will be here soon," Jade said, and before she finished speaking, Desmond and Evelyn rushed in, followed closely by Janet and Andrew, who had just arrived in town for the wedding.

"Where are they? What's happening? Is she okay? Is Bryan here now?" Evelyn asked breathlessly.

"She is okay as far as we know. Bryan just went in. I've never seen him like this," Jade said softly, rubbing her arms.

"First-time dad nerves," Desmond said with a faint smile. "He's going to be fine."

The family settled into a tense vigil in the waiting room. Janet sat beside Evelyn, whispering reassurances, while Andrew and Desmond exchanged worried glances. Jade paced relentlessly, unable to sit still, while Tom stood by the side, trying not to appear as anxious as everyone else was.

Inside the labor room, Sonia was gripping Lucy's hand with a strength Lucy hadn't known she possessed.

"Breathe, Sony. Deep breaths," Lucy coached, her own heart racing as she watched her friend struggle through another contraction.

Bryan burst in, breathless. "Babe!"n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Sonia looked up, her face streaked with tears and sweat. "Your baby is early and you're late!" she gasped, though there was a weak smile on her lips.

Bryan rushed to her side, kissing her forehead. "I'm here now, sweetheart. I'm here."

"We didn't have a baby shower," Sonia complained, "I was looking forward to it. All the items I got are lying there useless at home," she said in a shaky voice and began to breathe slowly through her next contraction. Bryan took her hand and breathed through it with her.

"There will be other babies..."

"You're out of your mind if you think I'm going to do this again," Sonia hissed at Lucy through gritted teeth.

"No more babies," Bryan assured her.

The time crawled by as Sonia's labor progressed. Bryan tried his best to stay composed, but

his nerves were fraying with every cry and groan from Sonia.

"You're doing amazing, Sony," Lucy whispered, tears welling in her eyes as she held Sonia's other hand. "Just a little more."

Finally, the doctor announced that it was time.

Bryan, wide-eyed, stood frozen for a moment before the nurse nudged him. "Dad, come over here. Your baby is coming now."

"You've got this, love. You've got this," he said, though his voice was barely audible and his legs felt like jelly as he went to stand by the doctor.

As the baby crowned, Bryan's face turned white as a sheet. His legs wobbled, and then- he

fainted.

Lucy gasped. "Bryan!"

The nurse quickly tended to him, assuring Sonia with a grin that he was fine and she had seen hundreds of men faint that way. Sonia, despite the pain, managed a weak laugh. "Of course, he'd faint!"

A short moment later, the sound of a baby's first cry filled the room. Lucy burst into tears, covering her mouth as the nurse placed the baby- a tiny, squirming boy- on Sonia's chest. "You did it, Sony," Lucy whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "You did it." Sonia cradled her son, tears streaming down her face. "He's so beautiful," she whispered. Tears streamed freely as Lucy watched the tender moment. She reached out and embraced Sonia, careful not to disturb the baby.

Bryan groaned, sitting up groggily just in time to see the baby. His eyes widened, and he scrambled to his feet, ignoring the nurse's warnings to take it slow.

"He's here," he whispered, his voice filled with awe. And Lucy stepped back as Bryan leaned over Sonia, kissing her forehead and then the baby's tiny head. "You're incredible, baby. Both

of you are."

"Thank you," Sonia whispered, her voice breaking.

Out in the waiting room, the doctor finally emerged with a smile. "Congratulations. It's a healthy baby boy."

The room erupted in cheers and hugs. Desmond wiped his eyes discreetly, and Evelyn clung to Janet as they celebrated.

When they finally went in to see Sonia, Bryan was holding his son. The family crowded around him, their faces lighting up at the sight of the tiny bundle.

"You're a grandpa now," Bryan said to Desmond, his voice filled with pride.

Desmond laughed, shaking his head. "Don't remind me."

As everyone took turns holding the baby, Tom stood back, watching the scene unfold. His

heart swelled with pride and joy for his brother.

He caught Lucy's eye, and she smiled as she went to hug him, her own face glowing with

happiness.

"Sony and Bryan are parents now," Lucy said as she embraced Tom.

"Yeah, they are," Tom said as he held her close.

"And you're now an uncle," Lucy reminded him, and Tom grinned.

"Yes, I am. I'm going to spoil that kid," he promised, and Lucy laughed.

"What did you think about the process?" He asked, and she smiled as she thought about it.

"It was both scary and awesome," she admitted after a while, "it was like watching a miracle happen. Watching Sonia bring that tiny human come to life was nothing like I've ever experienced. I can't believe I'll be doing that, too. It's humbling," Lucy said, patting her

abdomen.

"Can you believe that Bryan fainted?" Sonia said from across the room and everyone laughed.

Bryan scowled, "That nurse deliberately set me up to faint," he said defensively and everyone

laughed.

Soon, Candace and the other ladies arrived, as did Harry and the other guys, and Sonia was delightfully surprised to see everyone bearing gifts for the baby.

"We decided to bring the baby shower to you in here. I can't have my nephew not having a baby shower simply because he decided to show up early," Jade said with a grin when Sonia

looked at them in surprise.

"Oh, Jade," Sonia cried, touched by the gesture.

Soon the room became too crowded and some of them had to step out for the others to go in.

"I think now we have our happy ending. I can end our novel with this scene," Sonia said to Bryan happily as she looked at all the family and friends in the room.

"Yeah, I agree. You can just say and we lived happily ever after," Bryan said kissing her the back of hand.
