Chapter 147 Guanyin Distinguishes True from False (Please Subscribe, Vote for Monthly Pass)
Guanyin really felt quite bewildered; when she encountered Sun Wukong in midair just before, even though flying over had taken quite some time due to the speed, not to mention that the peach Sun Wukong was carrying was indeed freshly picked from the Flower Fruit Mountain.
But, had another Sun Wukong just left from here? And this Sun Wukong had become extremely aggressive, beating up Xuanzang and the others?
Initially, when she heard the news from the Underworld, about a monkey that resembled Sun Wukong rescuing the Dragon King of Jing River, Guanyin had her doubts.
But now, Guanyin's heart was torn between belief and skepticism.
In this vast world, full of wonders, could it be that within these Three Realms and Six Paths, there really existed another monkey almost identical to Sun Wukong?
"Yes, Bodhisattva, that troublesome monkey left just a moment ago, who knew he would return so soon!"
Hearing Guanyin Bodhisattva's words, Zhu Bajie nodded, pointing at Sun Wukong and cursing without any good humor.
"Reporting to the Bodhisattva, indeed the eldest brother had left just now, only for a brief moment!" The White Dragon Horse also nodded in agreement, answering as he did so.
As he spoke, the White Dragon Horse's gaze fell upon Sun Wukong, hesitated momentarily, then continued, "Bodhisattva, could the eldest brother have been with you all along? If that's true, then the one who just left must have been the impostor. I believe the eldest brother would never do such a thing as to hit master!"
Squeak, squeak, squeak...
Sun Wukong, with a furious scratching of ears and cheeks, had eyes filled with rage and ferocity.
He had brought back specialties from the Flower Fruit Mountain, but now he threw them fiercely on the ground, sticking his hand in his ear and pulling out the Ruyi Golden Cudgel, his wrath soaring to the sky, "Despicable creature, daring to impersonate I, Old Sun, ruining my reputation, where did that fake me go?"
"Eldest brother, it seems he went back to the Flower Fruit Mountain, didn't you encounter him on your way?" asked White Dragon Horse.
"Amitabha..." Bodhisattva Guanyin looked at the peaches that Sun Wukong had thrown onto the ground, now smashed to pieces, and silently recited a Buddha's name in her heart.
She had specifically picked the smallest peach for herself, but now all were smashed, and Guanyin fully understood the urgency and fury in Sun Wukong.
Guanyin silently lamented that the monkey was as impatient as he was five hundred years ago and spoke, "Wukong, if that is the case, shall we go see what's happening at the Flower Fruit Mountain?"
"Of course! I, Old Sun, will kill that scoundrel who dared tarnish my reputation!"
After nodding, Sun Wukong leaped into the air, heading straight back toward the Flower Fruit Mountain without even greeting Jiang Liu or the Bodhisattvas.
"This rascal monkey, always so impulsive!"
Shaking her head inwardly, Guanyin turned to Jiang Liu and said, "Xuanzang, you rest here for a while. I will go to Flower Fruit Mountain with Wukong; the truth will naturally reveal itself."
"Bodhisattva, I am truly obliged, but seeing as the monkey is so insubordinate and fierce, without even apologizing to the poor monk, I dare not keep such a ruthless disciple any longer!"
Hearing Guanyin's words, Jiang Liu, nursing his bruised face, began by expressing his thanks, but when speaking of Sun Wukong, he appeared somewhat fearful and angry, clearly the beatings from Sun Wukong had left a deep emotional scar.
"Indeed, Bodhisattva, I think that troublesome monkey is completely unfit for the Scripture Seeking in the Western Heaven; he's always after this Old Pig's head!"
Zhu Bajie, who had always wanted to drive Sun Wukong away, naturally stood in support of Jiang Liu upon hearing these words.
The White Dragon Horse opened his mouth as if wanting to defend Sun Wukong, but with the master and his second brother speaking like this, and himself being merely a mount, he thought better of it, sighed inwardly, and decided to remain silent.
Indeed, when one's status is not enough, even wishing to express one's heart does not merit the right. This strengthened the White Dragon Horse's resolve to seek his conferral in the Western Heaven.
Hearing Jiang Liu's words, as though scared by the monkey, Bodhisattva Guanyin thought the matter troublesome, as any problem with the Journey to the West for Scriptures would surely be her responsibility.
However, with Sun Wukong already departed, Guanyin did not have much time to comfort Jiang Liu, so she left saying, "Let's discuss this matter upon our return from Flower Fruit Mountain!"
As her words fell, Guanyin also soared into the sky, pursuing Sun Wukong.
In terms of cultivation level, Guanyin indeed surpassed Sun Wukong, but his Somersault Cloud was a technique she could not catch up with.
After a lengthy chase at full speed, upon arrival at Flower Fruit Mountain, Guanyin saw two monkey figures engaged in a ferocious brawl.
Both monkeys, whether in appearance, attire, or even the golden hoops in their hands, including their fighting techniques, were identical.
Each delivering blows and dodging, neither able to overcome the other, their battle raged on both land and sky.
Seeing this scene, Guanyin was stunned, wondering inwardly, "Sun Wukong is the Stone Monkey born from a Five-Colored Stone left behind by Goddess Nvwa during the mending of the heavens, having absorbed the essence of the sun and moon. It seems I never heard of him having a twin brother?"
Indeed, seeing two identical monkeys fighting, Guanyin's reflexive thought was twins, right?
But this thought had barely arisen before Guanyin suppressed it, then she silently activated her divine eyes to look towards the two monkeys.
However, at first glance, both Sun Wukongs appeared genuine, with no trace of the Art of Transformation noticeable in either one.
"What is going on here?"
Folding away her divinely insightful eyes, Guanyin looked down at the two Sun Wukongs, neither of which had any discernible flaws, and she frowned slightly, feeling extremely puzzled.
Both Sun Wukongs are real? Who on earth is the other one, capable of deceiving even my perceptive eyes!?n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
In fact, the thought that both Sun Wukongs might be real merely flashed through Guanyin's mind before she dismissed it.
Would Sun Wukong go against himself? With Sun Wukong's vain nature, would he tarnish his own reputation?
If one were to suggest that all of this was a conspiracy by Sun Wukong, or even by Xuanzang, Guanyin would not believe it.
Even though she had been secretly influencing Xuanzang all along the journey, he had not detected the slightest hint of it; naturally, he would have no motive to scheme and deceive her, right?
Besides, Xuanzang wasn't wearing the Tight Hoop Spell. Was their relationship so good that he would rather ruin his own name?
"I, Old Sun, am the real one, you're the fake! You evil demon, where did you come from!?" Amid their struggle, one of the Sun Wukongs, frustrated and furious, shouted loudly.
"Hmph, I, Old Sun, am the real deal, you're the fake one! You wicked demon, where did you come from and what is your true identity!?" The other Sun Wukong, not wanting to be outdone, was also ranting furiously.
Both Sun Wukongs were seething with anger, exchanging blows with near equal strength. Neither seemed able to gain the upper hand.
"Hmm, these two monkeys, their cultivation levels are quite similar, and both have reached the realm of a Taiyi True Immortal, both outstanding in the Taiyi Realm. This is proving difficult!"
Observing the two monkeys at the Taiyi Realm, Guanyin thought for a moment, feeling that the situation was somewhat troublesome.
"Do you know which one of them is your Great King?" After contemplating for a brief moment, Guanyin descended and asked the monkeys nearby.
"I, I can't tell either. With two Great Kings exactly alike, what do we do!?" Since even Guanyin could not distinguish between them, it was naturally difficult for the monkeys of Flower Fruit Mountain to do so; they all looked utterly confused.
It had been five hundred years since they had last seen their Great King, and now, unexpectedly, two had returned at once. Stay updated via empire
"Indeed, they can't make it out either? Could it be..." After receiving the answer from the monkeys of Flower Fruit Mountain, a thought sparked in Guanyin's mind, and she suddenly understood.
She had been distracted by the two identical monkeys before her, preoccupied with who was real and who was fake. Hadn't it been said that the Dragon King of Jing River had been taken away by a monkey claiming to be the Six-Eared Macaque, similar to Sun Wukong?
Thus, the identity of the fake amongst these two monkeys was swiftly revealed.
"Amitabha, Wukong, stop your hand…" With clarity in her heart, Guanyin intoned the name of the Buddha and called out to the two brawling monkeys.
"Bodhisattva, this demon has tarnished my reputation. I, Old Sun, must kill him today to quell the hatred in my heart!" As Guanyin spoke, one of the monkeys, amidst the chaos, found a moment to retort.
"Bold words, you impostor who complains first! I, Old Sun, am the real one!" The other monkey took the chance to swing his Jingu Bang, cursing as he attacked.
"Enough, Wukong, I already know the identity of the fake!" Seeing the state of the two monkeys, Guanyin declared.
Upon hearing Guanyin's words, the two monkeys finally separated and looked towards her, both insisting in unison, "Bodhisattva, you know the identity of this demon? Speak quickly! I, Old Sun, want to see for myself what kind of demon dares to impersonate me!"
"Cough, cough. You two, of the same kind, the true Wukong was born from a Five-Colored Stone left behind by Goddess Nvwa when she mended the heavens, resulting in a stone egg. The fake Wukong calls himself the Six-Eared Macaque; not only did he injure Xuanzang and his company, but he stirred trouble in the Underworld and seized the soul of the Dragon King of Jing River, did he not!?"
With an air of certainty, Guanyin spoke.
As Guanyin finished speaking, one of the monkeys' expression changed involuntarily, revealing a trace of panic in his eyes, then he swiftly turned and fled into the distance.
"Bold demon, thinking of fleeing!?"
Seeing the Six-Eared Macaque revealed and desperately trying to escape, Sun Wukong would not let him go so easily. He raised his Jingu Bang and charged forward.
Witnessing this, Guanyin of course also understood who was real and who was fake; she drew out her Willow Branch and brushed it gently.
In an instant, the twigs transformed into a green ribbon, and while the Six-Eared Macaque grappled with Sun Wukong, it wrapped around and restrained him.
"Six-Eared Macaque, now I ask you, why did you cause upheaval in the Underworld, seizing the Dragon King of Jing River's soul?"
Taking advantage of the moment to act, Guanyin effortlessly bound the Six-Eared Macaque and pressed sternly for answers.
