Chapter 1044: The Unsung Hero [Part 2]

Ethan and Chloe knew that now was not the time to have a chat with the Giantess, so they decided to leave her alone for the time being.

The young man then dug a small cave in the middle of a mountain, where he and Chloe stayed to rest.

When evening came, the small campfire inside their cave crackled, while Chloe tended to Ethan's injuries.

The blows of the Golden Gargoyle weren't something that he could shrug off completely, and he could tell that the injuries he received would take a few days to heal completely.

"I didn't expect that I'd witness an invasion in the realm of Janvidr," Chloe said after she finished treating Ethan's injuries. "And this proves that you are right. Even the Firbolgs are not safe in the Sylvan Realm because the sky above their heads could shatter anytime, and these fiends would come to destroy them all."

"It seems that no place is safe," Ethan commented. "Not even closed-off realms."

"Ethan, if we hadn't arrived and the Gargoyles had managed to claim this land as their own, what do you think would have happened?"n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

"... I don't have any idea. While there is a possibility that they could also open a portal that can connect to the Sylvan Realm, the chances of that happening is low. Maybe they can use this realm as a base to jump to other planes of existence, not only in the plane where we live."

"So, you're thinking that the Otherworlders are not allied but only move according to their own interests?" Chloe inquired.

"Something like that." Ethan nodded. "But I'm not too sure. It's only a hunch."

Chloe nodded in understanding. She didn't really know much about these things because it was very normal for the common folk to not know about it.

Only those that had been to the Lands of Saraqael knew that these battles to gain worlds weren't as simple as they seemed.

As the night deepened, the howls of countless wolves reverberated within the forest.

It was clear that they were mourning the deaths of their family members who had fought bitterly to protect their realm.

Truth be told, Ethan thought that he would have to fight against the Giantess in order to gain her approval.

But for some reason, the realm of Janvidr had touched him in a way that allowed him to form a connection with it.

Perhaps, the invisible powers that ruled the world understood that Ethan had fought hard to protect it, and so, it thought of him as one of the Champions of the World.

Vast amount of knowledge poured inside of his head, allowing him to know the role that Janvidr played in the bigger picture.

'I see, so that's it,' Ethan thought.

According to the information he gathered from the Will of the World, Janvidr was located at the East of Asgard, where the mighty Aesirs once lived.

The Aesirs used to be led by the All-Father, Odin, and they protected the Nine Realms from similar invasions in the past.

The invaders now had free access to Midgard and the other Realms. However, Janvidr was a realm that protected a domain located in the eastern side of Midgard.

This meant that as long as the Giantess, and her Wolf Children weren't defeated, that part of Midgard would be safe from harm.

Ethan then saw the countless battles that the Giantess had waged over hundreds of years, and he couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

Although her children were there to fight alongside her, she was like an unsung hero who fought for the sake of others without getting any recognition.

When Ethan learned about these things, he felt a little bad for assuming that he had to fight her to gain her recognition.

Right now, even if the Giantess were to force him to fight, he couldn't bring himself to do it, especially after seeing her lonely form standing tall and proud in a realm forgotten by those who once knew of it.

A sigh then escaped Ethan's lips as he learned more about the realm of Janvidr that he didn't ask to know.

All the information was simply flooding into his mind whether he liked it or not.

When everything ended, he realized that his head was resting on Chloe's lap.

"D-Did I lose consciousness?" Ethan asked.

"You dozed off," Chloe replied. "I thought you were sleepy, so I decided to give you a lap pillow."

Ethan nodded and slowly propped himself up. Truth be told, he was indeed feeling sleepy due to exhaustion.

But he wouldn't dare sleep on Chloe's lap for hours because that would have been too hard on her.

Summoning a bed from his storage ring, Ethan placed it a distance away from the campfire and installed glowing stones along the side of the cave, giving it some illumination. "Let's have dinner first," Ethan proposed as he procured a basket that was filled with sandwiches.

Lady Arawina knew that the two of them might have a hard time finding food in the Realm of Janvidr, so she asked them to take anything they needed from her pantry, so they could prepare food for their journey.

Chloe took a sandwich from the basket and took a big bite out of it, making Ethan smirk.

He understood that the young lady wouldn't do something unlady-like in public. She was only doing it now because Ethan was the only one with her.

The two ate and chatted with each other until they were full.

They then watched the starry sky, which was untainted by the pollution of light, and fully understood that they were in another realm.

The stars of Jivandr were different from the stars seen in the Shire Continent and Midgard. Nevertheless, that didn't change the fact that the scene was beautiful to behold.

"I'm glad I'm able to see this with you," Chloe said, as she intertwined her hand with Ethan. "This is a memory that belongs only to us."

Ethan smiled and nodded. "Yes. This is just a memory that belongs to the two of us."

He then moved closer to kiss the young lady's lips, and the latter didn't show any signs of resistance, nor did she push him away.

Even the wolf howls that were continuing to spread into the forest were unable to stop them from taking this moment as their own.
