Chapter 915 Origin of the Mist Guards
All of their eyes immediately turned to Lin Fan the moment that the city lord said this.
Lin Fan was caught off guard by the way that they looked at him.
They didn't look at him with distrust like he thought they would, but rather they looked at him with strange expressions. Though thinking about it, they didn't seem that unfamiliar to him.
It was similar to the way that the city lord had looked at him when he first met him.
One of them, who seemed to be the leader of the group, suddenly stood up and came forward. He reached his hand out as if he wanted to shake Lin Fan's hand, but Lin Fan didn't know what was happening which was why he didn't take it.
Eventually, Lin Fan took it and shook his hand, but there was a strange look on his face.
That person didn't seem to mind at all as he looked back at the other Mist Guards with a smug look on his face.
The others had envious looks on theirs as they looked at him, but they didn't say anything since he was their leader.
The city lord just stood there on the side as if he was perfectly fine with this.
Lin Fan just didn't know what was happening with these people at all and he felt very uncomfortable standing there with them.
After looking back at the others with a smug look, the leader of the Mist Guards turned back to look at Lin Fan. When he turned back around, it almost seemed as if he was hesitating about something as he looked at him.
Eventually, the leader of the Mist Guards asked, "Can I see your envoy token?"n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Lin Fan couldn't help feeling a sense of deja vu when he heard this.
The way that the leader of the Mist Guard asked this was just like the way that the city lord had asked this same question.
Lin Fan couldn't help looking back at the city lord after hearing this question.
As soon as the city lord saw him look back at him, the city lord gave a gesture as if he was urging Lin Fan to do it.
It wasn't a forceful gesture, it was as if he was giving a suggestion to a friend.
Lin Fan really wanted to curse the city lord when he saw this, but he held himself back in the end since he still needed the help of the Mist Guards.
With a sigh, Lin Fan pulled out the envoy token that he showed the city lord before.
The moment that this token came out, there were looks of awe that appeared on the faces of the Mist Guards sitting around the room. Many of them even suddenly stood up as if they didn't think that they should sit in the presence of this token.
This caused the rest of them to all stand up as well.
But when they all stood up like this, they immediately surrounded LIn Fan, which made it seem like they were about to do something to him. But in the end, they just looked at the envoy token that he held up.
The way that they looked at it was just like the way that the city lord looked at it earlier.
It even almost seemed like they wanted to reach out and touch it, but they held themselves back in the end.
After looking at it for a bit, they all had excited looks as they looked back up at Lin Fan and said, "Sir envoy, if there's anything that we can do for you, please tell us."
Lin Fan just looked at them with a strange look on his face after hearing this.
It didn't seem like they were lying with the way that they looked at him.
It really seemed like they would do what they said they would.
That just made Lin Fan even more confused why they were acting this way.
Finally, he couldn't take it anymore and simply asked, "Why?"
The city lord and the Mist Guards surrounding him were confused when they heard him ask this, but then smiles slowly crept onto their faces as if they understood what he was asking.
The city lord said, "Sir envoy, do you know the origin of our Weeping Mist City?"
Lin Fan was surprised and confused when he heard this, so he slowly shook his head to show that he didn't know.
The city lord continued by explaining, "When our ancestors first came here to found Weeping Mist City, it was because we had been chased out from the lands that we had lived on for centuries. It was because of the grace of the Mu Empire that we were able to settle in this place."
The leader of the Mist Guards nodded in agreement before taking over for the city lord, "The royal family were the ones that gave us the current cultivation technique that we use. It was because of this cultivation technique that we were able to explore the mist and find all the resources required to build Weeping Mist City. At the same time, it was because of the mist that we were able to defend ourselves from those that had wanted to take our land."
The two of them looked at each other before revealing looks of worship and saying at the same time, "It's all because of the grace of the royal family."
The way that they did this was almost as if they were fanatics that worshiped something.
Lin Fan couldn't help feeling uncomfortable when he saw them like this.
It was almost like he was looking at members of a cult with the way that they acted.

After taking a moment to act like this, the city lord and the leader of the Mist Guards came back to reality. The city lord turned back to Lin Fan and said, "We've always been looking for a chance to support the royal family, it was just that we never had a chance."
Then after a pause, he said in a slow voice, "We did want to help during the succession race, but…"
Lin Fan could understand what he was implying with this.
It was because it was a fight between the royal family that they didn't want to get involved.
The people of Weeping Mist City seemed to be filled with respect for the people of the royal family. That was why when it was a fight between the royal family, they didn't know which side to support.
That was why they had stayed out of the struggle for the throne.
But because they had stayed out of it, they were most likely worried that the royal family would doubt them because they didn't send support. They were afraid that the royal family would think poorly of them because of their actions.
That was why they were so happy to see Lin Fan.
It gave them a chance to make up for their past actions.
Lin Fan really found it strange how these people acted like this, but he understood that one action could change a thousand lives.
Even if he felt strange about the way that these people acted, it at least meant that it would be easy for him to accomplish his goal.
After taking a moment to adjust, Lin Fan said, "I want to enter Weeping Mist Forest, there's something there that I need to obtain for the sake of the Mu Empire."
As soon as they heard this, both the leader of the Mist Guards and the city lord revealed serious looks.
It seemed that both of them were prepared to do what was necessary to help him.
After a moment of thought, the city lord and the leader of the Mist Guards quickly pulled a table over to place in front of Lin Fan. After putting that table down, they brought out a sheet of paper that they spread out in front of him to show him.
Lin Fan looked down at this piece of paper and found that it was a map that they brought out.
This map seemed to list out many different things that would be considered secrets, but it seemed that they had nothing to hide from him.
Just based on the things that were recorded on the map, Lin Fan was able to figure out that this was a map of the Weeping Mist Forest.
After taking this map out, both the city lord and the leader of the Mist Guards looked at him to ask, "Please tell us where you need to go and we'll help guide you there. If there's anything else that you need, then we'll have the Mist Guards protect you."
Lin Fan once again felt awkward seeing this since he didn't expect this reaction from them.
But in the end, he said, "It would be better if I were to go into the Weeping Mist Forest alone. All I wanted was some information about the Weeping Mist Forest since I'm sure that you have your experience with going into the forest."
This time, it didn't seem like the city lord and the leader of the Mist Guards were as enthusiastic.
It was almost as if there was something that took the wind out of their sails when I said this.
It was as if they were completely disappointed with the words that I said.
Even though I could guess why they were acting this way, I didn't back down since it was important that I went alone.
After all, it was a bit of a lie that what I was doing was for the Mu Empire.
