Chapter 708 Thief
Joyce followed in the direction that her pendant led her. And after riding her horse for about fifteen minutes, she came across a lone house. She was about to cross that house when her pendant suddenly dropped.
Joyce abruptly made her horse stop. She turned the horse and made it face that house.
Not a single candle was lighted up inside that house. It almost looked deserted, if it weren't for the fact that there was a small garden outside that house. That garden looked well-maintained.
"So, this is it? This is where something is going to happen?" Joyce thought to herself and jumped off her horse.
She tied the horse a little further away from the house on a tree. And then she walked as lightly as she could and headed for the lone house.
As she was getting closer to that house, she was also chanting a spell that would allow her to hear things that her normal hearing power wouldn't allow her to.
At first, she didn't hear any slightest rustle coming from the house, leave alone anyone's voice.
Joyce knitted her brows together and asked herself, "Did the bad thing already happen?"
However, she dismissed that thought since most of the time, she would arrive at the right place she would need to be before the bad incident would happen. That was how she had saved a lot of lives until now.
She waited there for a while for something to happen – hear some noise, see someone, or anything.
However, rather than hearing or seeing something, she felt a gentle tug around her neck again. It was jumping while pointing towards the house.

And she heard the commanding whisper, "Break in. Quick!"
"Break in?"
Joyce instantly got a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. "Please don't tell me something already happened inside while I was waiting here," she prayed as she ran towards the door.
She tried opening the door and to her dislike, the door wasn't even locked. "Did someone already break in before me?"
Joyce slowly treaded inside the old house. She didn't want to make any noise, and she didn't want to bump into something or someone since the rooms were too dark and it was very hard to see.
However, she ended up making the noise because the house's old floorboard creaked.
And almost instantly, she heard the noise of something falling coming from the other room.
"Who's there?" Joyce asked, hoping that it wasn't any thief or any criminal.
However, rather than getting an answer, she heard the footsteps getting away from her.
Now she was sure that that person wasn't supposed to be here in the house.
"Stop right where you are!" Joyce shouted while simultaneously lighting up all of the candles that were in the house.
The three-room house became bright all of a sudden. Joyce looked around and her heart dropped when she happened to see the state that one of the rooms was in through the open door.
Everything in that room was in disarray – the clothes were all over the bed and floor, there was broken furniture lying around, and shattered pieces of glass in one corner.
Before she could walk towards that room for closer inspection, Joyce heard the sound of someone jumping out of the window.
"Stop running! Or I will break your legs!" Joyce warned whoever it was who was running away like a thief.
However, she could hear the footsteps going further and further away.
So she instantly ran towards the window and looked outside. A man wearing a black hood was running towards Joyce's horse.
"The audacity!" she shouted when she realized that that man was trying to steal her horse to run away from there. "But unfortunately for you, I am a witch!" she mumbled to herself and made a grasping hand gesture while maintaining eye contact with that man.
"Argh!" that man's leg got stuck on the grass and he fell down on his face.
Joyce swiftly tied that man to the ground with the help of the grasses. And when she was sure that that man wouldn't be able to escape from there, she rushed towards the room where it looked like he had done something.
The moment Joyce went and stood at the door to that room, her eyes fell on a woman who was lying down in a pool of blood.
Joyce clasped her mouth with her palm. She felt a shooting pain running down her chest upon seeing the horrible state that woman was in. That woman had bruises all over her body, her clothes were torn in several places, and she had a kitchen knife sticking out of her stomach.
Joyce gulped and rushed to that woman's side. "H-Hello! C-Can you hear me?" Joyce asked in a soft whisper so as not to startle that woman.
That woman turned her blank stare towards Joyce. A stream of tears rolled down her temple upon seeing Joyce's face. And other than that, she neither spoke nor moved a finger.
"You are going to be okay." Joyce gently took that woman's hand and reassured her, "I am a healer. Have trust in me and you will be okay in no time."
Joyce immediately pulled out the knife from that woman's stomach and began to chant the healing spell. She was using the Zobekker plant as a source to power her spell. And since that plant held great powers, she was able to heal that woman faster than she would normally take.
That woman's bruises and wounds all closed up in no time. But she still looked pale since she had lost a lot of blood.
"I have healed your wounds. If you take proper rest and eat well, you will be back to your normal health in no time," Joyce said and helped that woman to get up on her feet.
That woman still had the dead look in her eyes as if her soul had already died.
Joyce made that woman sit down on the bed and then asked her, "I've caught that man who was here. What do you want me to do to him?"
That woman suddenly looked terrified to her core. And she shouted in panic, "No! Please…. Don't!"
