Reincarnated as a Son of the Sword Saint and the Sage

Chapter 405: New Wife

Driven by the unusual timing of my curiosity, I tried to appraise her stats. For unknown reasons, I was unable to read anything other than [SYSTEM ERROR] on her status board.

It had been always showing me [SYSTEM ERROR] despite the Heavenly Gaze of my Ultra Skill: Eye of Providence provided better appraising abilities than the Analysis. It was not like my skills were defective, and I doubted they could not read her properly.

It was true that I got a different result this time, which was her seemingly perfect stats, but displaying no result was absurd. But showing these results meant that Eye of Providence was a big upgrade.

I tried to ask Akashvani what the problem was, but it told me that Iris's stats were out of its jurisdiction. In that case, it was possible that Iris was actually a super-powerful being that had been secretly blending with the population.

She was probably so powerful that she broke the system of this world. But who knows? I had seen a glimpse of her life before and saw her childhood, which meant her birth was recorded and she was raised by her family.

"Hm? Is there any problem, Raphael?"

"Ah, nothing, Iris. I'm sorry for dozing off in times like this."

As I was secretly peeking at her stats, Iris noticed something off about me and titled her head before she snapped me back. I was so preoccupied with her mysteriousness that I forgot that I should be entertaining Iris and try to gain more trust, not doubt or disrespect her in any way.

"Very well, you have something to discuss with me and invite me here, yes?"

"Well, yes, but my family is in the queendom right now, so they are not able to welcome you."

"It's fine by me, Raphael."

"Thank goodness. Please come in, Iris."

"Pardon my intrusion."

After our quick chat, Iris and I entered the mansion, with Cynthia following us behind. There were many things running through my mind, but I disregarded them for now so that I could focus on my intention.

A moment later, we finally reached the room where we would be holding a conversation. Cynthia kindly opened the door for us before we entered and sat on our respective seats.

A few servants then arrived and brought us some snacks and refreshments, giving us a bow before leaving the room. Cynthia stayed behind me. While I took a cup of black coffee, Iris put milk and sugar in her coffee.

"So what do you want to talk about, Raphael?"

"Well, I actually don't know how to convey it, but there is something that has been bothering me recently."

"Really? What is it all about?"

"I don't know if you are open about it, but I want to talk about our relationship."

Unlike my love at first sight with Sophia, it took me a long time to recognize my feelings for Iris. It was now time to convey it to her, so I felt nervous, but there was no room for me to chicken out.

"Our relationship, huh?" Iris said, elegantly taking a sip of her coffee. "Perhaps you are thinking of putting a label on it by any chance?"

"I want to be straightforward. I have been thinking about it lately, but I think I have been developing feelings for you, Iris."

"Wait, are you saying that you have loved me, Raphael?"

Hearing my response, Iris immediately but gently put her cup back on the table, and her mood somewhat changed. She sure opened her eyes wide as if her expectations had come true, but I could not be sure if it was good or not.

"Well, you have been a good friend of mine in the academy and understand me in many things. But since you are something like a colleague to me, I hardly ever think of you as a love interest."

"I see. That's totally normal to occur in the same workplace."

"However, when vacation starts and we have been busy with our own lives, I have been thinking of you occasionally, missing our time together. Then suddenly, I felt that my heart skipped a beat and realized that I have been holding back my feelings for you."

I paused before I stood up and then walked toward the couch on which she sat. I sat next to her and held our hands together. When I wanted to confess to someone, I wanted to be next to them so that I could convey my feelings with more sincerity.

"Iris," I called her name as I looked directly into her eyes. "The more days I am not with you, the more I have been missing you. I've loved you, and I hope you accept my confession."

Yeah, it was rather an abrupt approach than a more passionate one, but my feelings for it were genuine. Even Cynthia was covering her mouth to cover her delighted smile. She gaped upon hearing my sudden confession and proposal, and then she cast a lovely smile at me.

"Oh, Raphael, you seem to be rather rushed. It really surprised me when you said that you love me...but it really makes me happy deep inside. You know what, Raphael? I have been liking you since then."

"Iris... does it mean that...our feelings are mutual?"

"Yes, Raphael. I have been taking a liking to you even before our meeting through my brother's stories. When I finally met you at the academy, I couldn't help myself but like you more. Before I realized it, I have been trying to get closer to you, craving for your attention. I am giving you hints, but it looks like you did not seem to get it."

When she said that, I once again realized how dense of a person I was. But somehow, hearing that really made my heart pound.

"Really? I actually take heed that you are quite close to me, but I do not want to assume that you are flirting with me in case I am thinking it wrong. But now that I know that my feelings have been reciprocated, I want you to know that you are the perfect girl for me. Iris, would you like to be my wife?"

"I have been waiting for this moment to come," she said, putting on a wide, excited smile. "Of course, Raphael, I really, really want to become your wife. I love to be by your side forever."

"Iris...! Thank you so much!"

"Fufu."

The moment she accepted my proposal, I was so excited that I immediately wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tightly. Iris embraced me as well, physically and emotionally warming me up with her love.

I did feel her softness, but I just really loved Iris so much that I could not lust for her in any way. It was the same way I felt for Sophia, whom I cherished all the time. It did not matter how often we got intimate; the nights we spent together were just a bonus.

After embracing her for a minute or two, I unwrapped my arms around her. Her cheeks were still red from excitement. My mind wanted to kiss her, but my heart was telling me rushing was not always good.

"From this moment, it is safe to say that we are official, yes?"

"Of course, Raphael, all we need to do is ask for blessings from our families."

"Yeah. Oh, one more thing, I also called you today because I want to invite you and your family to my parents' wedding."

On this day, I somewhat got my main wife.
