“Husband, look at him, how annoying a person must be to become so irritating, and yet he keeps hovering around me, really drives me crazy!” Su Wenyue pointed at Sikong Ling’s departing figure, her tone brimming with dissatisfaction. She hadn’t forgotten that Han Yu had mentioned that he didn’t like to see her spending time with Sikong Ling, so she had to clarify the situation immediately, especially since it was Sikong Ling who had come to her on his own.
“Alright, don’t be mad, what exactly happened, and how did that guy Sikong Ling piss you off again?” Han Yu rubbed his wife’s head, smoothing her hair while he did so. Seeing the flush still on her face, it was clear that Sikong Ling had indeed angered her. Walking into the house and seeing the broken porcelain scattered all over the floor in disarray, his brow twitched. He had only been gone for a short while, and such a scene had already unfolded. It seemed that Sikong Ling had chosen the timing of his visit on purpose.
Only after learning the full story did Han Yu find it somewhat amusing. It was ridiculous that a few arguments could escalate to this extent between these two obviously incompatible individuals. Though Sikong Ling had intentionally provoked the situation, his wife’s dislike of Sikong Ling was a fact.
Han Yu himself didn’t really understand what Sikong Ling was thinking. He clearly had feelings for his wife, but every action he took seemed to be the exact opposite of what would win her affection, even to the point where she would become utterly repulsed at the mere mention of him. Although his wife looked quite cute when ruffled, did Sikong Ling’s actions indicate that his feelings had faded, and it was just a simple crush now?
Although Han Yu wasn’t keen on admitting that others fancied his wife, it was normal given how outstanding she was. As long as no greedy thoughts emerged, he could accept this kind of simple admiration and appreciation for his wife.
“Husband, when can we leave this place? If I have to keep seeing that scumbag, I’ll definitely be angered to death!” Su Wenyue was still fuming.
“Very soon. I’ve already figured out the arrays and mechanisms at the mouth of the valley, just waiting for the right moment to take you out. Just bear it a little longer, you don’t need to bother with someone like Sikong Ling. Arguing with him will only end up hurting you,” Han Yu said. The player was lost in the game; his wife hadn’t realized yet that Sikong Ling was just teasing her.
“I know, but it’s just so frustrating. You have no idea how awful he is. He always tries to stir up trouble in front of me, to drive a wedge between our relationship as husband and wife. He even beat around the bush trying to get information about you from me. Does he really think I’m that foolish? I won’t fall for his tricks!” Su Wenyue felt the need to report Sikong Ling’s ‘evil deeds’ to Han Yu, in case he wasn’t aware.
“Sikong Ling is too crafty. Even if you have some cooperation with him, you need to be wary. In the eyes of people like him, anything can be sacrificed for family interests, aside from their own, let alone temporary cooperation,” Su Wenyue actually understood very well. She had long intended to remind Han Yu; she was simply using this incident as an opportunity to do so without dwelling too much on Sikong Ling’s affairs, which could upset Han Yu.
Hearing his wife’s words, Han Yu didn’t take it lightly; instead, he responded seriously, “Wife, don’t worry. My dealings with Sikong Ling have always been about mutual interest, without complete trust or anything more. I’ll be careful.”
Han Yu was reassured by his wife’s reminder. She was his partner, after all. Despite sometimes acting impulsively, she understood what was important. Perhaps he had been too complacent. Sikong Ling’s actions today, though mostly playful towards his wife, might also be an attempt to probe for information about him through her. It was well-known how much he valued his family. Even if a spouse didn’t know everything, they could still pick up clues from words and behavior and infer many things from those. Fortunately, his wife wasn’t ignorant; even if she couldn’t outwit in banter, the boundaries she should guard hadn’t wavered in the slightest.
But Sikong Ling’s actions had made Han Yu wonder if his understanding of the man was too one-sided. People like Sikong Ling, who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals and leverage anything that can be used, are the most difficult to deal with. Fortunately, at the moment they were allies, not enemies; otherwise, having such an opponent would have been a real challenge.
“Hmm, just be careful, Sikong Ling is a master at presenting a facade, but he is someone whose motives are always unclear. He must see potential in you; that’s why he agreed to cooperate. Still, given his way of doing things, I suspect he’s got backups in addition to you. Even with actual cooperation, you can’t really rely on him for anything,” Su Wenyue added thoughtfully.
“Wife, thanks for the reminder, I’ll keep it in mind. But after this, if he tries to get information from you again, just ignore him. Don’t waste your breath arguing with him. With your little brain, you’re no match for Sikong Ling,” Han Yu cautioned her once more, not wanting his wife to be teased by Sikong Ling, with his possessiveness surfacing.
Previously Su Wenyue was preoccupied and didn’t ponder much. Now, upon hearing Han Yu mention it again, she retorted, “Hey, wait, what do you mean, Han Yu? What does it mean that my ‘little brain’ isn’t a match for Sikong Ling? You look down on me too, don’t you?!”
After being ridiculed by Sikong Ling, Su Wenyue was particularly sensitive, interpreting Han Yu’s words as having a hidden meaning.
“Wife, intelligence is mostly innate, and there’s nothing shameful about being a little foolish. I’ve got your back. I’m only reminding you because I don’t want you to be at a disadvantage with Sikong Ling. Look at you now, you’re just overthinking it,” Sikong originally meant it as comfort, but seeing his wife beginning to get ruffled again, his tone carried a hint of teasing. She was just too cute when flustered, it was no wonder Sikong Ling had found so much joy in teasing her. It’s not good to be too charming; drop your guard, and the wolves come knocking at your door.
“Han Yu, don’t think I didn’t catch that. What if I am foolish, what’s it to you! I’ve seen you for who you really are now. All you men are the same; none of you are any good, especially you, you’re even worse than that detestable Sikong Ling!”
Han Yu touched his nose, deciding whatever his wife said was right. He had indeed intended to tease her a bit, but since Sikong Ling had irritated her to the point of ruffling her feathers, and she hadn’t fully calmed down, it was too risky to antagonize her further at that moment. It wouldn’t be worth it if she held a grudge against him.
“Wife, I truly didn’t mean anything by it. You are my wife, whether foolish or smart, you are still mine, Han Yu’s wife. I like all of you, good and bad. Besides, what would I need with a woman too clever for her own good? You’re perfect just the way you are, a bit silly but with a clear mind. That’s far more appealing than those cunning women, and it’s precisely what I love about you,” Han Yu’s tone was now sincere, clearly revealing his genuine feelings.
