Re: Player

Chapter 260 [Laplace!]

[467th Return Continued!]

.

[Adam's POV!]

As all the previous returns I expected this one to be the same as the others. With game over message coming and then the whole thing getting restarted again.

Though to my surprise it didn't happen.

[You have reached one of the 25 Endings of the Game!]

[Bad Ending: Lapalce!]

25 Card-like panels appeared in front of me, with 24 of them being locked except for the one with the picture of a crying Laplace.

"Holy cow!" I was surprised to see this. I mean, I did expect to reach the ending of the game someday but… damn! What next?

I looked at the red floating card with a black border, and since nothing was happening by itself, I clicked on the card to see if something would happen.

[Did you know how Laplace was born?]

And a cinematic scene began playing in front of me, before I suddenly found myself standing in a barren land.

The ground was made up of strange gray rock, while the sky was dull red. The lack of air was a bit suffocating, but what was even more worse was the absence of any form of living being in the surroundings.

"Don't cry my son, you are a strong demon. You have to be brave but you have to be kind too. Just because the world is turning dark… doesn't mean we should as well," a young girl, barely 18, appeared at a distance. I saw her red skin, similar to Laplace as she carried her baby in her arms, while she sat against a rock in this scorching heat.

[Laplace's birth was a miracle. His mother hadn't eaten anything for weeks, lost in the desert she searched day and night for a place where she could settle down. But all she had found was a rock against which she sat down, delivering her baby to this cruel world!]

I then saw the baby Laplace starting to calm down, though her mother only sighed as she took out a knife before she cut down her own hand with it. My eyes widened as I gulped at her act, as she slowly used the cloth of her skirt to stop the bleeding, before picking up the severed hand and crushing it into smaller pieces.

She kept crushing it with her other hand until it became liquid enough to be eaten. And then slowly she fed her baby Lapalce her own hand. As he started gulping it down, his vitality returned to normal.

[Her mother was a demon with the heart of an Angel. She bet on her own life, to give life to the kid who can't even speak. She knew it was futile, but looking at the smile of her child, all her worries vanished. As if her purpose of life was fulfilled.]

The scene slowly changed and a dead town appeared in place of the previous barren land. And I saw the 2-year-old Laplace being sold as food to be eaten by one of the higher demons who had a cannibalistic nature.

I saw him struggle, and cry, his body parts being eaten over and over, as that demon regenerated it every time he ate it. I saw Laplce breaking like a rag doll, being thrown away for pleasure, and the joy of others.

The scene kept changing many times, as I saw Laplace turning 4,5,6 and so on. Each time a tragedy worse than before. Each time a situation worse than last time. And I wondered… would it be all right to wipe the entire demon race?

But that was put to test even furthur when one day the 12 years old Laplace was sold to the human kingdom. And then I saw that the demons were nothing to what the humans were capable of.

I was emotionless as I stared at the fate that Laplace had. And I wished for his death hundreds of times, not because I hated him but because I wanted him to escape the cruelty this world has bestowed on him.

It was at the age of 20 when the Primordials bestowed the destiny of a [Fate Weaver] to Laplace. And as much as I would have expected Laplace to say that he wished to destroy the world, his words became a surprise, even to me.

"I want to… make the world a better place. Where everyone lives happily."

I cried. I fucking cried. Even if he wished to destroy the world at that point, I wouldn't have felt anything against him. After what the world had done to him, I kept crying as I saw that 20 year old guy, forgiving the world for what they have done to him.Nôv(el)B\\jnn

'You don't have to be a messiha…' I kept crying as I saw him trying to use his powers for the betterment of others, only to be betrayed by those close to him, over and over again. Still he tried. When his best friend betrayed him for another country, he kept trying. When his lover tried to sell him to the Dark Magicians, he kept trying.

Why does he do that? How come he is so… kind?

And then I saw his life turning to be better. He found a girl he loved. He married her and separated himself from the rest of the world. He lived happily for a hundred years until… the Gods found them.

'No… No! RUN! Run Laplace!!!' I shouted. I begged.

And then I saw the Gods killing Laplace and his family as cruelly as possible. They burned his wife in front of him, as he kept begging them not to. And when the last spark was gone, his nature turned to the worst.

He created a clone, and then vanished from there to the underworld. While the Gods fought day and night, finally able to kill the clone. And then they too happily vanished from there.

And as for Laplace. He didn't want to kill the Gods, for they were repeating what the world had done to him. His goal was far bigger than that… he wanted to end the entire world with his power. And for that, he needed to go into hiding, until he had powers to destroy everything.

[Did you know? This world… is pathetic.]

Was the last line before the cinematic story ended.

And I looked at the new screen in front of me.
