CHAPTER 390 - The Last Protagonist.
*Bzzzz**Bzzzz*
Alex had seen Selina's calling device—something that worked almost like a phone in this world—ring exactly around 7 in the evening every day.
He had been curious about it for a while, but he never asked, until one day he did.
"Who's that?"
He wasn't aware at that time how big of a fish he was about to catch by that single curious inquiry.
"Oh, it's just my disciple. He is a bit too cautious with everything, so he would always want me to check in at 7 pm, ensuring my well-being."
Selina herself wasn't aware that her casual shrug at that time was going to change a lot of things.
"Oh? You had a disciple? I never knew."
Alex, who would've ignored it after getting his answer, didn't do so that day; instead, he pressed on.
He had felt at that time that he was getting closer to something—something very advantageous for him.
"Well, you are not the first to say that, my lord."
Selina, on the other hand, just sighed in defeat, as if she had heard the same thing a lot of times.
"Hm?"
Alex, however, tilted his head to the side, unable to understand what she was trying to say.
"As I said before, he is a bit too cautious for his own good, so he had told me not to tell anyone about him, so no one knows anything about him—other than Master and now you, of course."
That was all Alex needed to hear, and he knew right at that moment that he had found his guy.
Selina's disciple might just be the last protagonist of the demon empire, and the chances of this being true weren't low.
Alex had searched everywhere, in every noble house and royal house, but none among them were the protagonists, as none of them were able to trigger the quest.
But now, his antagonist's senses were tingling, telling him that he was almost there.
"I see..."
Alex nodded his head thoughtfully, making a bit of hesitation appear in his eyes, which of course didn't go unnoticed by Selina.
"What is it, my lord? You can ask anything from me; no need to hesitate."
She frowned a bit, not understanding the reason behind Alex's hesitation. It felt too sudden to her, like, one moment they were talking about her disciple, and the next, Alex did this.
This confused her.
"It wasn't anything serious. I just wanted to meet your disciple, but from what you've mentioned, he dislikes attention, so I didn't want to put you in an awkward situation."
Alex replied, his expression cryptic, but it was clear to Selina that he was trying to hide something, and this sudden urge to meet her disciple also felt a bit sudden to her.
"I can arrange that, my lord, but could you please answer one of my questions honestly?"
She nodded her head, agreeing to what he wanted, but her eyes squinted as she questioned back, causing Alex to raise a brow in doubt and uncertainty.
"Sure..."
He answered, his guard raised a bit.
"Why do you want to meet him?"
Her question slumped Alex. His face turned to the side, avoiding eye contact; it was as if he didn't want to answer the question, but Selina wasn't going to let it slide.
"You said you would answer, my lord."
She frowned harder, and Alex finally sighed in defeat.
"I just wanted to know what's so special about your real disciple and if he's better than me."
It sounded a bit cheesy, and it could give one the wrong meaning, but Selina just laughed at it, unable to believe that the most unbelievable genius she had met in her life had this side as well.
'Things I have to do to kill a protagonist.'
Right now, as Alex recalled those things, sitting on his throne, he couldn't help but shake his head.
All of what he did at that time was not to pull in Selina's doubt when he later did something.
All that he did was to put a base image of Alex being competitive in Selina's mind, making it seem like Alex was purely curious about her disciple's capabilities.
This would help him later.
"Just an overly cautious guy..."
He replied to Ann's question, still cooking up a plan to take down this guy if he were to be the protagonist.
Just then, he felt a little disturbance in the space, causing his eyes to squint as he knew there were only two people in the entire demon empire who would do that, and the next second...
*Woop* X2
With two popping sounds, two people appeared right in front of them, as if they had jumped out of thin air.
"Good evening, my lord~"
A playful voice was heard right after that, causing the girls'—Alice and Ann—eyebrows to twitch in annoyance.
'Another one?'
They muttered inwardly, their eyes scrutinizing the woman in front of them, causing a sharp glint to pass through their eyes as they noticed that she was equally beautiful as them; her mature allure just added to it.
Their eyes sharply turned to look at Alex, only to find him ignoring their glares with his innate skill called 'thick skin'.
Luna, on the other hand, didn't really care if Alex liked Selina or not.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
If he did, then she would welcome a new sister with open arms; if he didn't, well, she would still try to maintain a good relationship with Selina, as the fox woman was the strongest woman in the demon empire.
"Good evening to you too, Selina."
Of course, it was Selina, and Alex greeted her back before with a smile.
Selina wasn't as formal as she used to be, as she had grown closer to Alex during the time she used to train him. She was not the only one though; even Alex had grown on her a bit.
That was why he had asked her not to greet him like he was a demon lord every time they met—at least not when they were in private.
That's what she did right now before she turned toward her student, and so did the others.
It was a guy with black hair and black eyes, his hair cut in bangs, almost covering his sharp eyes, which kept moving around in caution, even though he was in the safest place in the whole demon empire.
His facial features were good, but not something girls would die for. He was just above average in that aspect; even his body looked like an average person's, probably because he was wearing loose clothes.
His height was alright, at 184 centimeters, but that was it, alright, nothing more than that.
Overall, he was good enough but incomparable to Alex.
But that was what it looked to the girls; in Alex's eyes, that guy was anything but normal.
The number of artifacts that the guy had on his body was enough to cause Alex to raise his brow, not to mention the guy's ability; most of them were defense-related, and there was only one attack ability, but it was way too broken.
The thing that made Alex smile, however, was the fact that this guy was the protagonist.
'Finally found you...'
Alex muttered inwardly as a new quest window flashed in front of his eyes.
It was finally time to hunt a new protagonist, and although this one was going to be a bit complex as the guy was linked with Selina, whom he didn't want to kill, he would come up with something.
