CHAPTER 372 - Ann in problem?
Alex, leaving Ann and Noctura out in the empire, moved toward the centralmost part of the imperial capital of the Phoenixia Empire.
The empire only housed spirits, elementals, and phoenixes, but it was open for all to visit.
It wasn't like the Black Tortoise Empire, where entry was denied for some specific races.
Although both Ann and Noctura wanted to tag along for whatever Alex was going to do, they didn't voice it out and waited for him in the city.
They stared at Alex's receding back which was slowly getting mixed in the crowd until it completely disappeared.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
It was strange that no one was able to identify him or pass him a second glance, even though the guy's looks screamed for attention, but they soon waved it off and started roaming around the city.
That was until a voice was heard, calling out to Ann from behind.
"What might your name be, beauty?"
Ann, however, ignored those words and fastened the pace she was moving in.
She didn't want any trouble, not when she knew her capabilities and she knew that this was an unknown place—a place where even Alex wouldn't be able to leave unscathed after causing trouble.
"Grrr—!"
Noctura was about to growl at the owner of the voice, but before it happened, Ann stopped the pup with a shake of her head.
Noctura, quickly understanding the situation, nodded her head.
But...
"Hey! I'm speaking to you!
The girl with the black hair and the wolf cub in your arms."
It was now clear that the owner of the voice had his voice directed at her, even the people in the surroundings knew that; it was clear from the way they looked at her.
But as Ann noticed the fear and urgency in their eyes, she could tell that whoever she came across wasn't just a normal person.
That guy was someone who was quite infamous in this area—the worst type she would want to meet.
She tried ignoring the guy again, but this time, the guy could tell that she was intentionally ignoring him, causing him to grit his teeth.
"You!!"
*Step**Step*...
Ann, who could hear the sound of some heavy steps, closed her eyes in resignation.
'I'm sorry, Alex.'
She muttered inwardly before she opened her eyes, a sharp glint passing through them, and Noctura, who saw that, turned serious as well.
Ann knew that this guy wouldn't just listen to her if she told him to leave her alone; she could hear desire dripping from his voice.
That guy was probably enamored by her looks, and now she regretting not asking for a disguise ability from Alex.
She could just use her stealth ability, and vanish completely, but that might cause more problems.
This seemed like the young master's plot to her—one where the young master would try to capture a beauty—so she knew that if she used her ability, then a person more powerful than her would be called here by the guy.
Wouldn't it be the same if she killed him, though?
Yes, and that's the point.
No matter what she does, she knows that the one above this young master would obviously come, so why not just kill the guy, or at least teach him a lesson—a lesson long enough that Alex would arrive before it ends?
The 'young master', on the other hand, was unaware of whatever was going through Ann's head, he just moved closer to Ann, and extended his palm, intending to grab her.
*Swoosh*
"Hey, you! How dare you ignore—!"
But his fist caught nothing but air, while his words were cut short as an agonizing scream left his throat.
"—ARGHHHHHHH! MY HAND!!"
The people in the surroundings froze the moment they saw the scene play out.
This was the first time they saw something like this happening, but they knew that the one responsible for this wasn't going to have a nice end.
The guy was the son of the empire's duke, one of the close relatives of the imperial family, with the imperial blood running within his veins, no matter how diluted it was.
But none of them knew that the one they thought would have a bad end was actually the woman of a guy, whose title alone would be enough to make them shit their pants.
Where was this guy, though?
What was Alex doing right now?
Was he even aware of what was happening? If yes, then why wasn't he here yet?
Well, Alex did know what was happening, and he still didn't make a move as he knew that there was no danger to Ann or Noctura's life yet.
They were strong enough to take care of some young masters and their lackeys without a problem.
He didn't help them grow strong just so they could flaunt their power; it was so that they could defend themselves when needed.
It was not like he would just sit still if the one they were facing wasn't someone they could stand a chance against.
He was ready to move the moment he noticed a presence that was strong enough to scratch either of them.
The phoenix, who was in the form of a flame, however, grew more and more tense as she saw Alex's battle-ready aura; it was as if he was ready to kill someone if needed.
"What do you want?" She questioned, trying hard not to show her nervousness.
The older one grows, the more scared they get of dying, especially if they were once the strongest—that was just what was happening.
Even more so when the demon lord suddenly comes to you and says that he was going to kill you but has changed his mind now.
The phoenix, once a mythical 3-ranked entity, had now regressed to A-ranked power, someone weak enough to be killed by a snap of Alex's fingers—she knew that very well.
No matter how weak she had grown, her senses were still the same, and she could sense the kind of monster Alex was.
Just him standing in front of her caused her to feel suffocated; it was as if a bloodthirsty beast were staring down at her with its claws around her neck.
Alex had already introduced himself, and he even told her that he was there to take Alice away, yet the first question she asked was that, but Alex just smiled at it.
He knew what she was asking.
She wanted to know what Alex wanted in compensation.
Alex wasn't a good guy—she could tell that, so there was no way he would let the ones who captured his woman go scot-free, right?
"Nothing actually.
But don't mistake my words as a word of kindness; all of this is because my woman isn't harmed in any way, or the world would've lost one of its most prominent species today."
Alex, however, just shrugged his shoulders, really having no intention to harm the phoenix or her descendants.
Especially when he could see that she was worried about Alice.
He had seen everything he could want to know about her with his all-seeing eyes; that was enough to let him know what her personality was and what she could do.
He saw no harm in leaving her alive; he saw profit instead—especially when he could see the quest window floating in front of him, telling him that she was a protagonist.
It was not every day that one would come across a real saint type of protagonist, one who was really good from within.
The phoenix was one of that kind.
He knew that she had a deep-seated hatred burning within her, and he even knew why it was burning so fiercely.

That was also the reason why he believed that leaving her alive would do him good.
[You can just buy her a strong puppet from the system; that is if you really want her to be useful.]
Sophia, who knew what Alex was thinking, advised him, causing a contemplating look to appear on his face, alerting the phoenix.
First, he talks about wiping her entire race out of the world as if it were nothing, but then he says that he wouldn't do it.
However, just as she thought that he would just leave now, he pauses with a thoughtful look on his face.
'I-Is he going to change his mind?'
The Phoenix, who knew that Alex might really be able to do what he had said earlier, grew nervous.
She knew the situation of her empire, and although there was one mythical 2-ranked phoenix—the emperor—and some legendary 3-ranked phoenixes present in the imperial capital, she somehow felt that they wouldn't be enough to stop this guy.
It was then that Alex finally moved his lips.
"I have a deal for you, but keep in mind that although it is not necessary that you accept it, your life is in my hands right now."
His eyes turned serious as he stepped closer to the glass container she was living in, causing her flame-like body to tremble furiously.
For the first time since he came in here, Alex wore an intense expression, and she really didn't feel good about this deal, but she still listened to it, as there was nothing else she could do.
Her life really was in his hands.
