Chapter 78 City Meeting

"You don't have to worry about your mother, Lily. She is completely fine," Fenwick said after noticing Lily was channeling Mana into her legs.

However, Lily did not stop her Mana, but she still asked, "What does Uncle Fen mean by that?"

Fenwick walked up to her and whispered in her ears, "Just like you and your brother placed an Artifact to protect your mother. I've done so as well. However, the Artifact I placed isn't solely related to defense but also for surveillance."

'And it allows me to teleport into her room.' He added inwardly, before he continued in a confident tone, "Ever since we left our house, your mother has been peacefully sleeping. If something had happened, I would have known about the phenomenon."

Lily sighed in relief after finding out her mother was safe. She did not question her uncle because she trusted him, especially when it concerned her mother. Given how much he loved her mother, she knew he would never lie about her safety.

After finding out her mother was safe, Lily bowed to the old man, "Lily, is sorry for interrupting, Grandpa!"

The old man was not angry at being interrupted. He only found the little girl's worry for her mother natural. Anyone who loved their parents would be worried after hearing his story.

Therefore, he said with a gentle smile, "Little lass, don't worry. I don't mind."

Then, after coughing, he continued his retelling of what happened, "Anyway, at first, everyone was terrified. Some thought it was the end of the world, while others even thought someone from our city killed the offspring of a powerful Mage. Therefore, the Mage came to bury us all with his child."

"We all had different thoughts as to why the red cloud appeared, but we all agreed on one thing, and that was, we were good as dead. Especially, when the terrifying red lightning began raining down from the red cloud."

A few minutes later, the old man finally finished retelling everything that happened, leaving Fenwick and Lily shocked and astonished by everything.

"To think so much happened, yet we were completely clueless." Fenwick sighed.

"It's only natural. Many residents who were inside buildings only just found out as well." The old man said, finding his words to be natural. If he were in his shoes, he would have reacted the same.

"All residents of Thunderfall City who can walk gather in front of the gates to the Nobles District." Suddenly, a stern voice resounded within the city, alarming the residents, since the voice sounded very familiar.

"T-that was Ancestor Zhang's voice!" The old man mumbled in a dazed voice. Even though he expected a city meeting would be called after what they experienced, he did not expect it would be the Zhang Family's Ancestor calling them.

After a moment of being stunned, he hastily said to Lily, "Little lass, this must be related to what happened to us. Let's hurry to the gates of the Nobles District."

Immediately after speaking, he hastily ran down the street, joining the others as though their lives were on the line.

"Big Brother Lucian, let's go as well," Lily said to Lucian, who had been listening to their conversation from a distance away.

Lucian nodded, and then they followed the stampeding residents.

"What about me?" Fenwick furrowed his brows as he watched their backs disappearing into the crowd.

After a moment, he went after them while massaging his aching forehead.

'Haah, it's only puppy love.'

'It's only puppy love!' He repeated, trying to make himself believe Lily's fondness for Lucian was nothing more than just shallow romantic attachment.

However, from first-hand experience, he knew a shallow romantic attachment could easily develop into real love.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

About five minutes later, Lucian, Lily, and Fenwick could see the golden gates leading into the Nobles District.

"This place is too crowded." Fenwick frowned as he glanced at the crowd of people that numbered in the tens of thousands with his Mana Sense.

"Let's get on top of a building," Lucian suggested before silently leaving the crowd, followed by Fenwick and Lily, who were more than happy to go somewhere less crowded.

After a few jumps, they easily got on top of the roof of a nearby building.

"Why is no one else on the roofs like us?"Lily asked after seeing everyone standing on the streets.

"It's simply because of their admiration and respect for Zhang Ju. And mostly fear. If they watched from the roofs and it provoked Zhang Ju's ire, their lives might be ruined," Fenwick explained.

Lily nodded. She had seen her fair share of arrogant Mages.

Five minutes later, a little less than twenty-five thousand residents gathered, filling the street for a mile. Regardless of what they were doing, they had dropped it and ran to the meeting place.

That was how much fear and respect Zhang Ju commanded.

"Does anyone know when Ancestor Zhang will arrive?"

"Are you out of your mind!? With Ancestor Zhang's status and power, even if he makes us wait a month, we should wait patiently with smiles!"

While the resident berated the ignorant fool, four people could be seen walking up to the golden gates from the other side.

Immediately, a few of the residents at the front spotted them, causing a wave of murmurs.

"Who are they?"

"How dare they stand over there!"

"A bunch of ignorant fools."

Soon, more residents took notice of the four people until everyone became aware of their presence.

"... Why do I feel like I've seen them somewhere?"

"Brother, you're probably still drunk. Almost everyone from our city has gathered here, yet no one can identify them. That means they're just nobodies."

However, as the four figures approached closer to the golden gates, the atmosphere slightly shifted.

The frontmost residents craned their necks and squinted their eyes to get a better view of them.

Soon, one of them gulped nervously and stuttered with respect evident in his tone, "I-I know them! I was once invited to a gathering and was graced by their presence!"

"They are the Ancestors of the Four Great Families! - Zhang, Jie, Chu, and Song!"

*Thud* *Thud* *Thud*

Instantly, every resident, whether young or old, fell to their knees.

"Long live the Ancestors!"

They all shouted simultaneously with respectful tones.

Immediately after shouting, silence fell over the crowd.

'Damn, this is no different from a cult.' Lucian was speechless after witnessing the scene. The residents that were gathered here were not even part of the Four Great Families, yet they were paying respect to them.

'Though… because of their Mage Ranks compared to the residents, their reactions are only natural.' Lucian sighed as he remembered how others reacted similarly when they saw him.

Once they were in front of the gates, Jie Deng, Zhang Ju, Chu Wen, and Song Liang leaped onto the four towers on the ends of the golden gates.

Suddenly, Chu Wen frowned when she noticed three figures standing on the roof of a building, instead of being on the street like the rest of the residents. Even worse, they were not even kneeling at them!

"You four!" Chu Wen pointed at them and shouted angrily, "Who the hell do you think you are to be up there and not kneel to us!?"

As Chu Wen's voice reached everyone's ears, they followed where she was pointing and frowned when they saw three figures clearly being disrespectful.

Well, that was what the residents believed, except for Jie Deng, Zhang Ju, and Song Liang, who were shocked by the pressure emitted from Lily and especially Fenwick, whose pressure was stronger than even their own after their Mage Ranks had increased to Mana Vein Tempering Realm.

'He's a Mana Core Formation Realm Mage.' They thought simultaneously.

Jie Deng cupped his fists in their direction and asked respectfully, "Your excellency, please do not mind Chu Wen's words, her personality is just like that."

Instantly, the residents were shocked by Jie Deng's respectful demeanor.

'Who the hell are they!?' The residents wondered.

As for Chu Wen, her face turned red from anger and humiliation. Jie Deng's words were no different from a slap to her face. "What do you mean by that Jie Deng!?" She questioned. He actually dared to say that in front of so many commoners.

However, Jie Deng ignored her, inwardly sighing at how just after she became a Mana Vein Tempering Realm Mage, her personality reverted back to when she first moved to Thunderfall City. Back then, she acted like she was the Queen of the world. It was only many years later that her personality changed for the better. Alas... she was back.

"And why the hell are you being respectful to these weak, ignorant, and disrespectful commoners? We should just kill them and move on!" She spat disdainfully. And even though her words were directed at Lucian, Fenwick, and Lily, the residents, who were still kneeling, felt disgusted and humiliated by her words.
