Chapter 374: Sector F

Chapter 374: Sector F

Shi Xuan chuckled and sighed, "Why does it feel like I'm marrying off a daughter?"

Yao Ran laughed at his words as she went to the bathroom. Before long, she returned and said, "I have filled up the water tank in the bathroom."

"Thanks." Shi Xuan nodded and hurried off to take a bath.

While Shi Xuan was bathing, Yao Ran went to his bedroom. She took out two five-gallon bottles filled with diluted lake water and ten two-liter bottles of lake water and placed them beside the bed.

Afterward, she left the bedroom and placed three meal boxes with different menus on the small table in the living room.

Before leaving, she called out, "Shi Xuan, there are meal boxes for you in the living room and water in the bedroom. If you need anything, just find me later."

From the bathroom, Shi Xuan shouted back, "Alright!"

Hearing his response, Yao Ran left and closed the door. When she returned to Unit 20, she saw Long Yu on a phone call in the bedroom.

"Mhm. Make sure to check the air system daily," Long Yu said. After a brief pause, he added, "Good. Call me if anything happens. Take care."Nôv(el)B\\jnn

After he put away the satellite phone, Yao Ran asked, "Huang Qian?"

Long Yu nodded at her question.

"Did something happen in the shelter?" she asked again.

"No. A Qian called to check on us. I told him we might need to stay here longer than planned," Long Yu replied, sitting on the bed.

Sitting beside him, Yao Ran took out two meal boxes and two bottles of watermelon juice from her space. She handed a meal box to Long Yu and said, "I'm going to find Chen Zizhen after eating. Will you come with me?"

"Of course." Long Yu answered without thinking.

After finishing their meal, the two packed their backpacks and weapons, informed Shi Xuan, and then left for Sector F, where the slum residents had been relocated.

Following the map and the directional signs on the wall, Yao Ran and Long Yu finally arrived at Sector F after walking for an hour.

Unlike the spacious area in Sector A, Sector F had narrower corridors and smaller living units. With a population multiple times that of Sectors S, A, and B combined, the air in Sector F felt stuffy and pungent.

While Yao Ran was studying the map at the entrance to Sector F, a thin boy about eight years old hesitantly approached her and Long Yu.

Standing a few steps away from them, the boy asked, "Elder Sistar, are you looking for someone?"

Hearing this, Yao Ran turned to look at him and replied, "Yes. Do you know someone named Chen Zizhen?"

The boy shook his head, thought for a moment, and then said, "I don't know that person, but I can help you find him."

Yao Ran raised her brows slightly at the boy's words. Observing him, she asked, "What do you want in return for helping me?"

The boy answered, "My younger sister is sick. I need medicine."

"What kind of medicine?" Yao Ran asked again.

"I don't know. She has a high fever, and her body makes creaking sounds when she moves," the boy explained with a hint of confusion and hesitation in his voice.

Yao Ran thought for a moment, glanced at Long Yu, and said, "I'm curious about his younger sister's illness."

Long Yu understood her intentions. He looked at the boy and said, "Take us to your younger sister. If we have the medicine she needs, we will hire you to find Chen Zizhen."

The boy's cloudy eyes lit up at Long Yu's words. Nodding eagerly, he said, "Please follow me."

As they followed the boy, Yao Ran noticed a creaking sound every time he took a step. She pondered for a moment, then pulled Long Yu closer and whispered, "A Yu, did you hear the creaking sound?"

Long Yu shook his head. "No. What's wrong? Do you think something is off with that boy?" Yao Ran frowned and explained, "There is a creaking sound every time that boy takes a step." "What kind of creaking sound?" Long Yu asked curiously.

Yao Ran listened intently for a moment before replying in a low voice, "It sounds like old tree branches."

Long Yu's expression darkened at her words. He glanced thoughtfully at the thin boy walking ahead before saying, "Let's observe him for now."

"Mhm."

As they walked through narrow corridors and dimly lit areas, the boy whispered, "There are a lot of bad people here. Elder Sister, you should cover your face to avoid trouble."

Just as he said this, a group of men started whistling and hurling vulgar remarks at Yao Ran. One of them sneered and lustfully looked at Yao Ran. "Young lady, how much do you charge for an hour?"

Another man chimed in, "How many men can you handle at once? Can you handle all of us?"

A bald man with crooked teeth laughed and said, "She is mine. You guys can have her after I'm done. Know your pla-"

Thud!

Before he finished his words, something fell to the ground with a dull thud.

The severed head of the bald man rolled across the ground, leaving the group stunned. A few seconds later, they screamed and ran away in different directions.

"Guards! Someone is killing people!"

"Help!"

Ignoring their panic screams, Long Yu turned to the thin boy and said, "Keep leading the

way."

The boy, pale-faced, quickly resumed walking. After another twenty minutes, they arrived at Area 18 of Sector F.

The boy led them to Unit 56 and opened the door. He said, "This is where my younger sister and I live. Elder Brother, Elder Sister, please come in."

Stepping inside, Yao Ran surveyed the small room, which can be seen at a glance.

The room was barely four square meters, about the size of a king-sized bed. The only other item in the room was a small folding bed.

On the bed lay a girl about three years old, with deformed feet. She was unconscious and breathing heavily, with sweat covering her blushing face caused by a high fever.
