"Mmm-hmm."
After washing off the blood and foregoing his hat, Chen Yu ran out of the bathroom wincing from the pain in his groin, "All set?"
"Just...just a sec..."
"Bam!"
Chen Yu kicked a rat that was passing by and jumped down from the upstairs.
Once on the ground, he stood under the window and shouted, "Once you're done packing, jump out; I'll catch you."
"Are you...are you crazy?!" Chen's actions froze, and she turned her head swiftly towards the window, revealing her front teeth, "It's the third floor!"
"Hurry up and pack, I'll jump first, then you throw your mom and my wheelchair down." Chen's response was quick, he slid over to the window, braced with his hands, twisted his waist, and jumped down from the third floor.
"Thud!"
Caught effortlessly by Chen Yu below.
To prevent injury from the impact, he quickly moved his arms downward to cushion Chen, absorbing all the recoil the instant he caught him.
"Fuck..."
Chen, chasing out onto the windowsill, stared agape and blurted out a swear word at the sight.
"What the hell are you dawdling for?" Chen bellowed, "Hurry up!"
"Ah! Okay!"
Once on the ground, Chen looked Chen Yu over from head to toe, "Did you win?"
"Won."
"Atta boy." Chen kept a straight face but gave a thumbs-up, "You are indeed my son Chen."
Chen Yu was fully focused and looked up at the window, replying perfunctorily, "Yeah."n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
"But you mustn't become like those beasts. I'm always your dad!"
"Yeah, yeah, sure."
"What's with that attitude?!" Chen snapped angrily.
"Snap!"
Chen Yu caught the thrown wheelchair and pushed it in front of Chen, "Please take a seat. Let's talk while you're sitting."
"Bro!" Chen, hugging Ms. Chen, tossed her out of the windowsill, "Catch her!"
"Swoosh—"
Ms. Chen: "Oh~"
"Bang!"
Chen Yu caught Ms. Chen firmly and set her down.
"Mom, stand to the side and don't move."
"Okay." Ms. Chen nodded, walked out two meters with her hands out, and turned back, "Son, I used to toss you like this when you were little."
Chen Yu: "..."
"It's your turn now!" Ignoring Ms. Chen, Chen Yu shouted to Chen above, "Jump!"
"It's...It's too high! I'll take the stairs."
"How come you were so quick to throw your mom, eh?" Chen scolded furiously.
"..." With gritted teeth, Chen closed her eyes and took a strong leap!
"Swoosh—"
She turned into a shooting star, soaring out more than ten meters!
In the stunned gaze of Chen Yu and Chen, she flew past them, face down, and heavily crashed into the distant grass.
"Splat."
A stream of blood began to flow from her face...
Chens Yu and Chen: "..."
"Cough."
Struggling to get up from the ground, Chen wiped the blood from her nose and showed two teeth in her hand, "My front teeth are wrecked."
Chen Yu: "..." "How did you jump that far?"
Upon hearing that, Chen suddenly came back to her senses and yelled, "Why didn't you catch me?"
"You were practically flying! How the hell was I supposed to catch you?!"
"Stop arguing and let's get going," Chen, seated in his wheelchair, interposed, "What on earth happened?"
"Let's talk on the way." Chen Yu picked up Ms. Chen and headed straight towards the outskirts of the city, "Sis, you push Dad."
"No need." Chen executed a practiced tank turn, sliding his wheelchair to follow, "She's not as fast as me."
The family of four moved swiftly.
Chen slowly caught up to Chen Yu and asked in a low voice, "Killing him, has your identity been exposed?"
"Don't know. But... Hecheng is about to be destroyed."
"Genocide?" Chen nodded without surprise.
"Sorry." Chen Yu's eyes were complex, "Perhaps... If I hadn't destroyed Henghui Group back then, none of this would have happened. And so many people wouldn't have died."
Chen sighed, "Child. It's not your fault..."
Chen Yu: "But..."
"Then who else is to blame?" Chen added.
Chen Yu's stride faltered: "..."
"You are the prime culprit." Chen also stopped, his piercing eyes unblinking as they stared at Chen Yu, "The death of all the citizens of Hecheng, it's all directly related to you!"
"..." Chen Yu lowered his head.
"Dad..." Chen was about to speak but stopped herself.
"Shut up!" Chen turned his head to glare at Chen, and continued to scold, "If you don't have the ability, don't take on the responsibility! If you have any conscience, you should feel guilty right now! Because of your impulsive act, so many people died! How is this not your fault?!"
Chen Yu: "..."
"But..." Chen's voice paused for a moment, then he turned his head, looking back at the streets of Hecheng, "You didn't do anything wrong."
"..."
"Those beasts, they have long deserved to be killed," Chen looked back at Chen Yu, "Us lowly people, we're not afraid of death. We're just afraid of all dying and not being able to take even one of their lives in exchange!"
"Isn't it just annihilation?"
"Every two or three decades, they do it once."
"Wasn't Hecheng bound to be their target sooner or later?"
"Today, the lives of two hundred thousand people in Hecheng, in exchange for a Transcendent's life, it's worth it," Chen looked straight at Chen Yu, his voice trembling slightly, "If you're capable, kill a few more in the future! Avenge Hecheng!"
Chen Yu: "..."
"Anyway... I'm leaving the rest to you." Chen's ice-cold face revealed a slight smile, "You never became one of those beasts. You'll always be the pride of Hecheng."
"What do you mean?" Chen Yu's complexion changed.
"I just wanted to see you off, I had no intention of leaving with you. Didn't I tell you yesterday, living is so boring."
"Old man!" Ms. Chen was shocked.
Looking up at the sky, Chen's gaze became distant, "I was born in Hecheng. And in death, I'll join the townsfolk."
"Dad!" Chen cried out in a sob.
"You all go on," Chen's eyes filled with tears, and he choked up, "Have a safe... journey..."
"Bang!"
A karate chop, and Chen was knocked unconscious.
"Stop dilly-dallying."
With Ms. Chen in his arms, Chen Yu continued to head forward, "Sis, push that old man along."
"Yeah!"
...
Ten minutes later.
The family of four finally reached the southern gate of Hecheng.
Chen Yu braced himself and immediately picked up the pace.
But just as he was about to step through the gate, he inexplicably felt a chill throughout his body, his muscles tensed, and he stopped in his tracks.
He slowly turned around.
To see in the air behind him, a man was floating in midair.
The look in his eyes towards them was full of bone-chilling coldness and killing intent...
"Those leaving the city."
"Die."
