Chapter 117: Impostor
Chapter 117: Impostor
In the trees nearby, a completely pale figure stood, dumbfounded by what it had just witnessed.
White Zetsu stared blankly at the figure that looked exactly like Obito, with the Mangekyō Sharingan in his eyes. Wasn't Obito already saved? So, who was this Obito standing before him?
And what was going on with those Mangekyō Sharingan? Could there be another Uchiha in this world?
Or was this person truly Uchiha Obito?
White Zetsu couldn't make sense of it no matter how much he thought about it. Giving up on understanding, he merged back into the trees, preparing to relay this information to Uchiha Madara and let him make the decision.
When White Zetsu returned to Madara's base and explained what he had seen, both Uchiha Madara and the real Uchiha Obito were left completely bewildered.
Madara: "???"
Obito: "!!!"
"Who is he? I'm the real Uchiha Obito!" Obito exclaimed in shock, his voice rising with emotion. "No, I have to go back. If even Rin and Kakashi have been deceived by that impostor pretending to be me. No one will be able to tell the difference. That imposter must have some hidden agenda, and I'm going to expose his true identity!"
Uchiha Madara's face darkened as well. The sudden appearance of this unknown variable had completely thrown off his plans. Especially now, Obito clearly had thoughts of returning to Konoha. But in Madara's plans, Obito needed to stay and learn, eventually witnessing Rin's death to awaken his Mangekyō Sharingan.
"Sigh..." Madara sighed heavily. The unexpected development had even caught him off guard. Now, he would have to take other measures to minimize the impact.
He turned to the agitated Obito, speaking in a commanding tone, "Obito, look at me!"
Obito instinctively met Madara's gaze, and before he realized it, all he could see was a pair of massive crimson Sharingan, spinning in a way that seemed to seize control of his very soul.
As Obito slumped unconscious, Madara took a deep breath. His body had grown old and feeble, and even suppressing Obito's memories had become a significant challenge for him.
But at least he had successfully erased the memories of the fake Obito from Obito's mind.
With that done, even if Obito encountered the imposter later, by the time he realized anything, Rin would already be dead. By then, it wouldn't matter if there was an imposter or not.
After catching his breath, Madara ordered White Zetsu, "Keep an eye on that fake Obito. Find out what he's planning. If possible, eliminate him."
White Zetsu: "Understood, Lord Madara."
...
Alex pretended to be weak as he allowed Rin to carry him for protection.
At first, Kakashi had wanted to carry him, but Alex had refused, reasoning that their strongest fighter should not be burdened. As a result, it fell to Rin to carry him.
While being carried by Rin, Alex noticed Kakashi glancing back at them multiple times, a hint of jealousy flashing in his eyes. It seemed that Kakashi had feelings for Rin as well.
For some reason, Alex found the softness of the girl beneath him even more delightful.
As he was being carried, Alex quietly reflected on the current timeline.
They were most likely in the middle of the Kannabi Bridge battle. Just moments ago, Iwagakure shinobi Jōnin had injured Kakashi's left eye, but he was soon defeated by Obito, who had awakened his two-tomoe Sharingan.
Then, another Iwagakure Jōnin, used Earth Release: Rock Lodging Destruction to collapse a cave, crushing half of Obito's body under the debris. This is when Kakashi had received Obito's Sharingan, and Obito had been saved by Uchiha Madara.
At this point, the Iwagakure nin hadn't died yet, so the sneaky middle-aged man who had been leering at them from behind must be that, right?
Looking at the creepy man in the back, Alex thoughtfully stroked his chin.
"Hmm?"
Alex noticed that the nin suddenly made a move from behind. It was obvious that he was about to strike, and his targets were clearly Alex and Rin. One was injured and weak, while the other was a medical ninja with limited combat ability. Compared to Kakashi, an elite Jonin, the two of them were clearly easier to deal with.
Seeing the incoming ambush, Rin was clearly unaware. Alex had no choice but to loudly warn her:
"Rin, watch out! Someone's attacking!"
Thanks to Alex's warning, Rin immediately leaped to the side, narrowly dodging the nin's attack.
Seeing his attack fail, the Iwagakure nin turned to Alex with a twisted grin. His voice, raspy like metal scraping together, asked:
"Uchiha brat, how did you sense my attack?"
Still being carried on Rin's back, Alex sneered at the ninja:
"Really? You've never heard of the Uchiha and the power of the Sharingan?"
Mocked by Alex, the ninja's expression grew even more grotesque. He sneered back:
"Unfair, isn't it? The moment you open those eyes, your power surges. You were just a low-level Chūnin, but thanks to your Sharingan, you managed to beat my comrade. And now, you've gained this unimaginable power..."
The ninja's grin widened.
"But that's fine. I'll kill you, and then those precious eyes of yours will be mine!"
Seeing the nin charge toward him and Rin, Alex, despite being able to kill the man with a flick of his finger, feigned panic and shouted:
"Kakashi, you idiot! What are you standing there for? Kill him already!"
In reality, Kakashi had already moved before Alex even finished his sentence. As soon as Alex yelled, Kakashi appeared before the nin, blocking his attack with his short blade.
The two began to fight.
Though Kakashi seemed to be at a disadvantage, likely due to the exhaustion from previous battles, Alex wasn't worried. In the original story, Kakashi, after gaining the Sharingan, perfected his Chidori and used it to kill the man.
As for any butterfly effects caused by Alex's interference, leading to Kakashi losing?
That was a joke. Wasn't Alex still there? If Kakashi failed, it would just be the grand debut of the Mangekyō Sharingan!
To enjoy the show... no, to fully account for all variables, Alex even stopped Rin from stepping in to help, convincing her with words about believing in Kakashi, trusting in comrades, and the strength of their bonds. Together, they watched the fight unfold in front of them.
Kakashi gathered all his remaining strength, creating some distance from the man. He quickly formed three hand signs, and the sound of chirping birds filled the air as brilliant white lightning danced around his hand.
Stimulated by the Lightning Chakra, Kakashi's speed increased several times over, catching the man off guard. Just as Kakashi's Chidori was about to pierce the man, a figure suddenly appeared, kicking Kakashi away. It was none other than the Iwa Jonin Sumashi, who had arrived with a squad of Iwa forces!
Kakashi, knocked to the ground, struggled to stand. Meanwhile, Rin, with limited combat abilities, and the three Leaf nins were now cornered and seemingly facing a desperate situation.
In the original timeline, this was when the Yellow Flash, Minato Namikaze, would have arrived to save the day. But even with Alex's Six Eyes activated and scanning the area within a range of several kilometers, Minato was nowhere to be found.
The butterfly effect had kicked in. Thanks to Alex's interference, Sumashi and his men arrived sooner, and Minato wouldn't make it in time. By the time he arrived, Kakashi and Rin would already be dead if Alex didn't step in.
Narrowly avoiding death, the other iwa nin's expression twisted even further. He raised his kunai and slowly walked toward Kakashi, clearly intending to torture him before delivering a cruel death.
Sumashi, on the other hand, paid no attention to this, only needing one of them to interrogate for information.
He approached Rin and Alex and coldly asked Rin, who was protectively shielding Alex:
"Where is Minato Namikaze? Where is Konoha's main base?"
Rin didn't answer. Instead, she gripped her senbon tightly and looked back at Alex with a gentle smile, her voice soft:
"Obito, I didn't expect that after barely escaping death, we would soon face it again...
"I'm sorry. In the end, I was just too weak. I've always been a burden to you..."
From a distance, Kakashi struggled to rise, hearing her words. He tried to channel his lightning once more, but his body was too drained of chakra and strength to perform any more jutsu.
"No!"
Kakashi yelled, unwilling to lose another comrade.
Sumashi, indifferent to the situation, simply gave a cold command:
"Kill the girl. Then interrogate the Uchiha brat. Oh, and don't forget to take his eyes. The Sharingan is quite rare, after all."
"Yes!"
As the Iwa-nin began to advance toward them, Rin's body tensed. Just as she prepared to charge forward, a hand suddenly stopped her, its strength undeniable.
Then, she heard Alex's voice, different from his usual goofy tone, calm and faintly laced with contempt, as he said:
"Rin, Kakashi, it's time you witness the power of a god."
Hearing Alex's words, the advancing Iwa-nin paused for a moment, then burst into wild laughter, mocking him:
"Sumashi, I think this Uchiha brat's fear has finally driven him mad! God's power? Ha!"
"Hahaha, this is too funny! Show us your so-called godly power, Uchiha brat!"
The mocking continued, with even Sumashi showing a hint of a sarcastic smile. But he quickly composed himself, commanding his subordinates:
"Enough. Let's not waste time. Kill them and extract Konoha's information."
One of the Jonin stepped forward, grinning cruelly at Alex and Rin as he said:
"Got it, got it. Sumashi's just too cautious!"
As the Jonin approached, getting closer and closer, Rin stepped forward again, standing in front of Alex. With her trembling voice and resolute expression, she said:
"Obito, don't be reckless. I'll try to hold them off. You need to escape with Kakashi."
Seeing her determination, the approaching Jonin became more excited. He licked his kunai, grinning maliciously as he said:
"What a touching scene. Too bad... none of you are getting out alive!"
As the distance closed, the Jonin suddenly sped up, launching a sneak attack on Rin. Despite his superficial frivolity, no ninja who survived the war's meat grinder could truly be careless.
Originally, Rin wasn't a match for a Jonin, and now, caught off guard, she couldn't even put up a defense. She could only watch as the kunai neared, ready to slice her neck in the next instant.
Many memories flashed through her mind. Facing death, she felt no fear, only regret that she couldn't continue fighting alongside her companions...
But just then!
*Whoosh!*
A faint sound of something slicing through the air reached her ears!
Rin didn't feel the pain she expected. Confused, she looked up at the Jonin.
The Jonin, who had been charging at her, suddenly froze, his movements halting as if in suspension. The kunai in his hand could no longer move.
A few moments passed, and a red line appeared across the Jonin's neck. Slowly, his head slipped to one side and fell to the ground, blood gushing from the severed neck. It sprayed toward her, but before it could reach, it was blocked by an invisible barrier.
A soft sound came from behind her, and she turned to see a familiar yet strange figure, hands in pockets, slowly walking forward. The blood floating in the air seemed to move with him.
Rin stared blankly at Obito; he looked completely unfamiliar.
Suddenly, Alex turned his head, flashed her a radiant smile, and said:
"I told you, leave it to me."
The battlefield fell into silence.
After a moment, the Iwa ninjas finally snapped back to reality. They quickly retreated, glancing around warily. Once they confirmed there was no backup from Konoha, their gazes returned to Alex.
Sumashi glanced at the corpse on the ground. Even he had no idea how his comrade had died.
This meant that the invisible attack just now was something even he couldn't defend against!
He cautiously looked at Alex, his expression serious.
"How did you do that?"
Everyone's eyes were now on Alex, not just the Iwa ninjas, but even Rin and Kakashi.
Alex shrugged, pointed to his eyes, and said casually:
"These are the Mangekyō Sharingan, a higher level of eye power beyond the Three Tomoe Sharingan. I unlocked them when I was near death.
After awakening the Mangekyō, each eye gains a special ability. Mine are the power of reversal, which heals injuries, and—limitless control over space."
Seeing the Iwa ninjas' confused faces, Alex continued to explain, casually slicing the air with his finger before smiling.
"Like this."
An invisible slash spread outward, tearing through the ground, instantly slicing through the body of a ninja trying to capture Kakashi.
Everyone immediately looked at the ninja, whose body split in two.
The crowd stared in disbelief. With just one attack, a Jonin was dead!
If it had been Minato who did this, no one would be surprised, but this ninja was just a Chunin before!
Seeing this, Sumashi knew they had to attack immediately. If they let fear spread among the ninja, it would be over.
He shouted:
"Kill him! Such a terrifying jutsu without hand signs must consume a lot of chakra. He definitely can't use it continuously. Let's attack together, and we'll definitely kill him!"
The other ninjas nodded, agreeing with Sumashi.
"Yes, let's all use jutsu together. We can kill this damned Uchiha brat!"
At this point, they no longer cared about gathering intel. All they wanted was to kill the Uchiha in front of them.
The ninjas began launching their jutsu, all aiming at Alex and his two companions.
"Earth Release: Earth Splitting Palm!"
"Earth Release: Earth Spear!"
"Earth Release: Added-Weight Rock Technique!"
"Earth Release: Stone Missile!"
Multiple jutsu flew toward Alex and his companions, filling the sky, completely covering their vision.
Facing the combined attack of so many ninjas, even a Jonin would be crushed instantly. But for Alex, who could now destroy stars, these attacks posed no threat.
He grinned, his fake Kamui Mangekyō Sharingan spinning slowly in his eyes. At the same time, he used his Six Eyes and energy absorption to manipulate the energy inside him, projecting it outward in the form of a giant.
Susanoo!
A massive blue giant appeared from thin air, first its bones, then its muscles, flesh, and finally skin and armor!
In an instant, a giant dozens of meters tall formed, enveloping Alex and his two companions. The numerous jutsu aimed at them shattered like glass upon hitting the giant's armor, which remained completely unscathed.
Alex's figure slowly rose into the air, floating at the center of the giant. Looking down at the terrified Iwa ninjas below, he smiled and said, "To you, isn't this the power of a god?"
With a slight movement of Alex's mind, the giant swung its arm, and a long purple sword materialized in its hand. Accompanied by crackling purple lightning, the sword swept across the area where the Iwa ninjas stood. The powerful blade not only killed all the Iwa ninjas in its path but continued to extend into the distance, eventually slicing through a mountain before stopping.
Alex rubbed his chin, gazing at the scene before him, and muttered, "Did I overdo it?"
With a mere thought, the massive giant dissipated into the wind, and Alex fell from the sky, landing in Rin's arms.
Seeing Rin and Kakashi staring at him in shock, Alex panted heavily and left them with one sentence before falling unconscious: "It's up to you now."
He cast one last glance at the distant hill before sinking into 'unconsciousness.'
...
On the distant hill, Uchiha Madara, White Zetsu, and Black Zetsu watched the entire scene unfold in silence.
What had they just witnessed? A fully realized Susanoo!
And not just that, but the two ocular powers awakened by Alex were incredibly strong—one focused on extreme offense and the other on ultimate healing, even surpassing the abilities of Uchiha Madara!
Unable to bear the silence any longer, White Zetsu finally spoke up, "That Uchiha can activate a fully realized Susanoo. It's highly likely that his eyes aren't just Mangekyō Sharingan, but Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan!"
After a moment of silence, Uchiha Madara spoke slowly, "Yes, it must be Eternal Mangekyō. To use a fully realized Susanoo against mere ants without fear of depleting his ocular power, he can't be an ordinary Mangekyō user. However, something still feels off. I don't sense the same source of Mangekyō power."
Hearing this, Black Zetsu's eyes trembled violently as a thought crossed his mind.
In the current ninja world, aside from Uchiha Madara, there shouldn't be anyone else who possesses the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. There could only be one explanation! That person pretending to be Obito isn't from the ninja world—he's from another planet!
The ōtsutsuki clan, the ones who can traverse the universe!
Damn it!
Black Zetsu's mother, Kaguya ōtsutsuki, defected from the ōtsutsuki clan, making them their enemy. If that person is indeed from the ōtsutsuki clan, it would throw all of Black Zetsu's plans into chaos.
Another silence followed, broken only by White Zetsu once again. "Lord Madara, should we go kill the one pretending to be Obito?"
"No!"
Both Uchiha Madara and Black Zetsu spoke at the same time.
Madara believed that if that Uchiha really had awakened the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, killing him would require a tremendous cost, potentially even leading to Madara's death and preventing him from teaching Obito.
Black Zetsu, on the other hand, was concerned that if that person was indeed an ōtsutsuki, even Uchiha Madara wouldn't be able to defeat him. Attacking recklessly would only alert the enemy.
So, they watched as Alex and his companions left, taking no further action.
...
Being carried by the cute girl on her back, Alex pondered the current timeline.
At this point, the Battle of Kannabi Bridge had just ended, and soon, the Mist Village, manipulated by Uchiha Madara, would send their ANBU to abduct Rin and seal the Three-Tails inside her.
Afterward, Obito would witness Kakashi killing Rin, which would cause him to completely fall into darkness.
Alex was determined to stop the ANBU from abducting Rin, but he also intended to ensure both Obito and Kakashi awakened their Mangekyō Sharingan.
He was intrigued by the Kamui dimension and wondered if it could be merged with his pocket universe.
Even in his unconscious state, Alex was still using his Six Eyes to observe the surroundings, enjoying a rare moment of relaxation.
In both the Marvel and DC universes, there had been too many powerful enemies, keeping him constantly on edge. In such an environment, his mental state had become slightly warped, making him feel unlike himself. But here, in the Naruto world, he was already invincible, with no pressure at all. His mental state was gradually recovering.
He wanted to become stronger, to achieve eternal existence, but only if he remained himself.
If he became an immortal and powerful being but no longer recognized himself, how would that be any different from death?
This was why Alex hadn't immediately steamrolled through the Naruto timeline. Curiosity and the unknown are essential elements of life!
Suddenly, Alex sensed a spatial fluctuation, and a young man with sunny blond hair appeared beside them with a smile.
Alex immediately recognized him as Minato Namikaze, the father of the Child of Prophecy and the future Fourth Hokage.
Seeing Minato's sudden appearance, neither Kakashi nor Rin was startled. They were already used to it.
When Minato noticed the Sharingan in Kakashi's left eye, he couldn't help but be slightly surprised and asked, "Kakashi, what's this?"
Kakashi explained the events that had just occurred, and Minato was shocked.
"What? Obito awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan?"
As Jiraiya's student, he knew very well what the Mangekyō Sharingan represented. It was the most powerful ocular jutsu of the Uchiha clan, and the most notable user was none other than Uchiha Madara, the Devil of the Ninja World. The Ghost of Uchiha
Could Obito now possess the same power as Uchiha Madara?
Looking at the unconscious Obito, Minato's expression became complicated.
He had much to consider. He was aware of the tensions between the Uchiha and the higher-ups. What would the Third Hokage and the others do when they discovered that Obito had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan?
