Chapter 1124 Three Months in the Battlefield

1124  Three Months in the Battlefield Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"So, what mission did you grab from the mission hall exactly?"

Though the battlefield was only a couple of minutes away from the barracks, Valyr and the others decided to take a slight detour on their way there, each of them still having a lot of things to ask each other.

"All in all, it's a mission with a difficulty that's right up our alley," said Valyr in response, letting out a sigh soon after as he looked at the two as if he'd been wronged. "But let's not talk about that for the meantime."

"Why didn't you tell me the two of you had those kind of nicknames? What did you two even do to get those in the first place?"

Watching Valyr's expression drastically change in less than an instant, it took both Hal and Vera almost the entirety of their willpower to not burst out into laughter there and then.

Taking in a deep breath to compose himself, Hal let out a faint exhale before looking back at Valyr with a slight smile. "Well, just like the nickname you got, we've done feats that got us those nicknames."

"In my case, I was eventually given the nickname War Saint since, as we all know, my expertise isn't just in fighting," said the man, prompting the two to nod in response. "Whether it was in strategy, logistics, or any other area that brought an advantage of the battlefield, I was probably helping out in that area." Hal slightly shrugged his shoulders after that. "As for the Northern part, that just came about since I'm usually at the north defensive line."

Seeing Valyr look at her the moment Hal was done explaining the origins of his nickname, Vera let out a slight wry chuckle before taking in a deep breath of her own. "Unlike Hal, I used to have a different nickname before being called the Benevolent Saintess."

"I don't know if you've been listening to the crowd earlier, but someone mentioned something along the lines of the Northern Arcane Saintess." Hearing the nickname Vera mentioned, Valyr went silent for a bit before nodding as he recalled hearing that.

With that, Vera continued with her explanation. "The Northern part is self-explanatory. On the other hand, the Arcane Saintess part came about because of how powerful my magic is."

"I wouldn't say I'm the greatest when it comes to fighting one on one with magic, but in terms of supporting others from the rear lines with magic… I'm sure you know very well how effective I am in that regard."

Valyr nodded in agreement, knowing how flexible Mystic Energy was in that department. "How about the Benevolent Saintess one? Did you just heal a lot of people to get that?"

"I did heal a lot of the injured back in our barracks as a way to improve my control over Mystic Energy," replied Vera with a slightly wry smile. "As Master's new disciple, I'm sure you know how great Mystic Energy is."

"However… let's just say that I might have gone a bit too far with it that caused me to earn that nickname."

Though Valyr more or less understood what Vera was trying to say at first, the young man did not have even a single clue as to what she meant by her final statement.

Fortunately, with a bit of imagination and creative thinking, it did not take much for him to come up with a few plausible scenarios as to why she said that, causing him to slightly shudder in response.

'All the more reason to not underestimate the potential of Mystic Energy,' thought Valyr to himself.

"Wait… Master's new disciple?" Listening to the conversation between Valyr and Vera, there was a part in Vera's words that caught Hal's attention.

Pondering over it for a bit, he eventually realized what she meant by that, causing him to look at Valyr with a surprised expression. "Wait… if I'm understanding this correctly, you've become the disciple of the Imperial Alchemist?"

"Yep."

Whoosh!

Nodding with a slight smile, Valyr went ahead and conjured a wisp of bright white Mystic Energy for the two to see, with Vera staring at it as if it were the most precious treasure in the world.

As for Hal, he was left at a complete loss for words at the man's answer. In fact, it was only after they were only a couple hundred meters away from the battlefield did he finally regain his bearings.

"Not only are you a Zeihardt, but you're also a disciple of the Imperial Alchemist that wields both Mystic Energy and that terrifying dark blue energy." Muttering to himself as he went through every single thing he thought that made Valyr stand out, Hal soon let out a sigh of exasperation.

"At times like these, it makes me wonder whether the three months I've spent in the battlefield has truly been worth it."

"Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was," said Valyr with a slight chuckle, steering Hal's thoughts away from the words the latter spoke just earlier. "In any case, the mission I took needs us to kill 20 orcs at the middle of Rank 5, as well as 3 orc leaders at the peak of Rank 5."

"…Sounds like you chose the hardest mission you could get for a 10-star mercenary," said Vera after some thought, to which Hal nodded in agreement.

"Surely a mission like this is a piece of cake for Gold Mercenaries like you two, no?" replied Valyr with a slight grin, prompting the three to stop in their tracks as they talked about their next steps.

"Just to remind you two, we're taking this mission just to see who among us has grown the most since leaving the inheritance," said the young man to the two, to which the two nodded back in response. "With that in mind… kill all of the necessary orcs then leave the orc leaders as a gauge for our actual growth?"

"Sounds good to me," answered Hal after giving it some thought, to which Vera voiced out that she had no complaints with it either.

With the three having a rough idea of what they needed to do after that, the three went ahead and deployed their movement speed boosting skills, easily clearing the gap that separated them from the battlefield.

Then, relying on their higher stats, they deftly moved through the battlefield like a slippery snake, rendering orcs lifeless one by one as they cut a small part of their bodies as proof of their kills.

With the three of them more or less honed in combat thanks to both the inheritance and the battlefield, it only took less than 20 minutes for the three to complete the first objective of the mission.

With both humans and orcs looking at the trio in fear as they returned to the battlefield, Hal and Vera both decided to give the parts they cut off from the orcs to Valyr for the meantime.

Stuffing all of the orc parts they cut off in his pockets, the young man then looked at the two with an expectant smile as he asked, "So, who among the three of us is gonna go first?"

Whoosh!

"I'll go first." Unsurprisingly, the one considered to be Valyr's rival back then in combat power was the first to make the move, faintly giving off a killing intent as his expression turned cold.

"Best of luck," said Valyr in response as both him and Vera decided to watch Hal fight against a peak Rank 5 orc leader from afar.

This way, he'd clearly be able to find out what three months in the battlefield gave to the man named Vylhalteinn.
