Chapter 62 Learning About Other Fruits
August wandered through TG Adventurer's Guild, scanning the enormous quest board.
The room was alive with the murmur of players chatting, negotiating, and strategizing. Each corner of the hall seemed to have its own energy as adventurers gathered in groups.
He couldn't help but eavesdrop on a group of players near the counter discussing rare quests. One of them, a tall player with a fiery red cloak and a sword that emitted a faint orange glow, was gesturing animatedly.
"I'm telling you, the fruits are crazy," the red-cloaked player said confidently.
His username, Blazefury, floated above his head. "I've read every thread on the forums. The Fruit of Corruption is rare, yeah, but the Fruit of Longevity? That's the one everyone dreams of."
A shorter player in black leather armor scoffed. His username read RogueKing. "Dreams, yeah. You think anyone who gets one of those is going to advertise it? Infinite HP? Immortality in the real world? People would kill for it—literally."
Blazefury crossed his arms. "I heard one appeared in the Great Dark Wastes three months ago. Caused a bloodbath."
"Rumors," RogueKing shot back. "No one knows if anyone even claimed it."
Another player, a mage with glowing blue runes etched into their staff, chimed in. "What about the Fruit of Evil? I heard it gives players an entirely separate cursed magic interface that works in both the game and real life."
"Yeah, and whoever has that will probably turn into some villainous overlord," RogueKing smirked. "Imagine that—cursed magic, no penalties. That's next-level power."
August leaned against a pillar, absorbing every word. He hadn't heard much about the other fruits before.
The Fruit of Corruption he'd used was already life-changing, but the descriptions of these other fruits made him realize just how much potential the game held.
He smirked inwardly. 'One thing's for sure: this game isn't just a game anymore.'
Blazefury continued, lowering his voice. "They say fruits like these only appear during special conditions—massive player battles, world boss events, or unique quest completions. If you're lucky, you might even get a whisper notification."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Yeah, 'if,'" RogueKing said, rolling his eyes. "Anyway, good luck finding one. You're more likely to get hit by a lightning bolt in real life."
---
August eventually turned back to the quest board as his eyes swept over the various postings. Many of the quests were menial or required lower levels, but then one caught his attention.
[ Quest: The Stolen Relics ]
Rank: C
Level Requirement: 25+
Description: Relics of ancient power have been stolen from the Temple of Echoes. Recover them from the notorious group lurking in the Mountainous Bluffs.
Reward: 8,000 Gold, Rare Item Drop, +30,000 EXP
August's lips curled into a grin. "This could be promising," he muttered to himself while selecting the quest.
---
As he walked toward the exit, he heard Blazefury's voice again. "Hey, you—what level are you?"
August stopped and glanced over his shoulder. "Level 26."
RogueKing snorted. "You're taking a C-ranked quest solo? You've got guts."
Blazefury grinned. "Or he's insane. What's your class?"
"Assassin," August replied coolly, then added internally, 'and Mage.'
The group visibly rolled their eyes.
RogueKing frowned. "Your class is the weakest unless you attack secretly."
Blazefury raised an eyebrow. "Think you've got what it takes to handle a C-ranked quest on your own?"
August smirked confidently. "Guess I'll be finding out soon enough."
With that, he turned and walked out of the guild, leaving the group behind.
Blazefury chuckled. "Well, he's got guts."
RogueKing shook his head. "Or he's going to end up in the respawn zone."
---
Outside, August checked the quest details once more and opened his map. The Mountainous Bluffs weren't too far, but the area was notorious for its high-level enemies.
"Time to see how promising those rewards really are," he muttered as he began making his way toward the bluffs with his shadow cloak swirling behind him.
The hunt for power and riches continued.
...
...
The path to the Mountainous Bluffs twisted sharply upward
Pointy rocks and loose gravel made every step a cautious calculation. August adjusted the straps of his inventory pouch, glancing up at the steep incline ahead.
The winds whistled around him, carrying faint voices.
As he approached a clearing, he stopped in his tracks and crouched.
Up ahead, a group of travelers was surrounded by a band of thieves. Their faces were masked and their weapons drawn.
"Hand over everything, or we'll make sure this is the last trip you ever take!" barked the apparent leader, a tall figure with a scar slashing across his face.
One of the travelers who happened to be a frightened merchant, clutched a small bag. "Please, this is all I have! My family depends on me!"

August's lips curled into a smirk as he read the notification. "Looks like I'll be earning some extra credit."
He unsheathed his enhanced dagger and activated his stealth ability, moving quietly along the cliffside.
His eyes scanned the group of thieves: five in total. One archer perched on a rock, two swordsmen flanking the travelers, a bulky brawler with spiked knuckles, and their scarred leader wielding a curved blade.

"Time to make an entrance," August muttered, dashing forward in a blur.
His high speed caught the archer off guard as he materialized behind him, delivering a swift Hidden Strike to the back. The archer crumpled, dropping his bow.

The noise alerted the others. "We've got company!" the scarred leader shouted while drawing his curved blade.
The brawler rushed forward, swinging his spiked knuckles at August.
He sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the blow, and countered by activating Dash.
His figure blurred as he appeared behind the brawler and landed a devastating slash across his back.

[ System Notification: Dash Skill Leveled Up! ]
[ Dash (Level 5): Increased speed and reduced cooldown.]

The brawler stumbled but didn't fall. He roared in anger and charged again, but August activated Shadow Dance, creating a series of shadowy afterimages that confused the brute.
While the brawler swung wildly at illusions, August turned his focus to the two swordsmen.
One lunged at him, but August parried causing the clang of steel to ring out.
Using his mage abilities, he cast Lightning Bolt, sending a crackling bolt of energy directly into the second swordsman's chest.
---
[ System Notification: Lightning Bolt Activated! ]
[ Effect: 2x Gravitational Force Applied. ]
---
The swordsman hit the ground hard and struggled to lift himself under the spell's increased weight. August didn't waste time and finished him with a quick stab to the neck.
The remaining swordsman hesitated after seeing his comrade fall. August dashed forward with his newly upgraded skill and disarmed him before knocking him out with a sharp elbow to the temple.

Now only the leader and the brawler remained. The leader growled while stepping forward. "You've got guts, but this ends now!" He slashed wildly, forcing August to be on the defensive.
The brawler charged again, flanking August from the side.
Seeing how things were getting a bit more tougher, August decided to use the big guns.
