Chapter 151 Surrounded
The Half-Elf Palace.
The killing continued.
The palace had turned into a sea of blood and fire, the sounds of fighting and screams blending into a nightmarish cacophony. It was chaos incarnate.
Yet, the side hall where Luis had been staying was eerily quiet.
Under the pale glow of the moonlight, a tall and thin figure appeared outside the side hall, his footsteps breaking the silence.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Drawn by the sound, a small head cautiously peeked out from a dark corner. It was Vera.
Clutching the staff in her hands, she stared at the approaching figure, her eyes wary. Only after the moonlight revealed his face did she step out of hiding.
She asked softly, "Excuse me, Boss. Is Asmon safe?"
Luis nodded, his tone calm and reassuring. "Yes, he's safe. Let's go meet Queen Elsa. You'll stay with her—he'll return there."
Vera nodded obediently and followed Luis.
At that moment, the rebels were focusing their assault on the palace's inner court, leaving the outer areas unusually quiet.
Every now and then, panicked servants and maids rushed past them, fleeing for their lives. None of them seemed to notice anything unusual about Vera and Luis.
Vera had swapped her attire for that of a palace maid, smearing her face with blood to conceal her identity. On a night like this, with chaos all around, no one would recognize her unless they looked closely.
They walked in silence until they reached the open-air garden at the back of the palace. Once adorned with blood roses, the garden had been stripped bare by the king's grandson and replanted with other flowers and greenery.
Vera glanced around, her curiosity piqued. But before she could say anything, a familiar voice rang out.
"Good evening, Boss and Miss Vera!"
Luis turned to face the speaker. It was Queen Elsa, her regal presence undiminished despite the changes she had undergone.
Now both a Blood Clan member and a Half-Elf, she greeted them with a faint smile. She also carried a unique Vortex aura, signifying her connection to Luis vortex.
"Boss, try this fruit juice made from special life fruits," Queen Elsa said as she poured a glass of glowing juice for Luis.
Without hesitation, Luis took a sip, smacking his lips in approval.
Seeing his reaction, Elsa smiled and refilled his glass. But before Luis could take another sip, the garden entrance was abruptly blocked by a team of half-elf guards.
Queen Elsa's eyes narrowed as she noticed the Silver Moon Guard badges on their uniforms. Just as she was about to order them to leave, a familiar voice rang out.
"Miss Vera, you're really troublesome."
Elsa frowned deeply. "Diego? What are you doing here?"
Diego stepped forward, a smug smile on his face. "Where should I be, Your Highness? While Duke Rutte is leading the attack on the palace's inner court, I'm here under orders from His Excellency Duke Dressrosa—to kill Vera."
The words hit Vera like a bolt of lightning. She froze in place, staring at Diego in disbelief.
"You… What did you say?" Vera's voice trembled. "Father… wants to kill me?"
Diego's smile softened, though his tone remained cold. "I'm sorry, Miss Vera, but I'm just following orders."
"No… no… Impossible…" Vera shook her head, her voice cracking as tears welled up in her eyes. The naive girl had never imagined that her father would want her dead.
Turning his gaze to Queen Elsa, Diego sneered. "Your Highness, I knew from the moment I heard that Miss Vera was supposedly killed by Prince Tupe that you didn't follow the plan we had agreed on. So, as soon as I entered the palace, I kept my eyes on you. And just as I suspected, you've betrayed me."
Queen Elsa met his sneer with one of her own. "Diego, Miss Vera is alive and well. Do you dare to kill a member of the Dressrosa family? To spill her blood in this place?"
Diego chuckled, his confidence unshaken. "Your Majesty, according to the half-elf nobles, Miss Vera has been dead for a while, killed by Prince Tupe. That's the story everyone believes. So how could I be responsible for killing her?"
Queen Elsa raised an eyebrow, her tone sharp. "But look around, Diego. There are witnesses here. Can you guarantee that none of them will leak the truth?"
Diego's smile widened as he surveyed the scene. "Oh, don't worry about that, Your Majesty. I'll deal with them afterward, one by one. If silencing them isn't enough..."
His eyes gleamed with malice as his gaze lingered on Elsa and Vera. "...I'm sure they'll find the bodies of two beauties far more compelling."
Hearing Diego's words, the breathing of the guards around him grew heavy, their eyes gleaming with a sinister intent.
Queen Elsa and Vera's expressions instantly turned to disgust. Stay tuned with empire
"Kill them!" Diego commanded, waving his hand as the half-elf guards slowly began to surround the group.
Boom!
A loud sound echoed as Luis stepped forward, drawing all eyes to him.
"Hey, seems like I've been ignored," Luis remarked, his voice calm yet laced with authority as he faced the encircling guards.
Turning his gaze to Diego, Luis asked, "Diego Savoy, does your family have a 4th-stage knight?"
Diego's face tightened into a frown at the question. The truth was, his family didn't have a 4th-stage knight—though they did have outside support.
With a cold laugh, Diego retorted, "Luis Hartmann, you're truly incompetent, far worse than Thor or Felipe. Today, you'll die, and with you, the downfall of the Hartmann family begins. The Black Cavalry's strength has made too many enemies."n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Luis swirled the glowing juice in his glass and took a casual sip before replying, "Duke Dressrosa is pulling the strings, I see. How thoughtful."
Diego's laugh grew louder, filled with arrogance. "The decisive war for this continent is fast approaching. Duke Dressrosa only wishes to gather as many allies as possible. For the sake of peace, I ask you to die, Hartmann. As for these two beauties, they'll live a little longer—just long enough to serve my purpose."
Luis sighed, his tone laced with disappointment. "Diego, I thought you were smarter than this. I even considered bringing you under my command. What a waste of thoughts."
Diego's expression hardened into an icy mask. Without a word, he raised his hand, signaling the half-elf guards to attack.
