Chapter 440 A Harrowing Experience
--
Pshew! Pshew!
"Haaah! Haaah!"
Godwyn heaved and heaved in exhaustion as he angrily stared at the unending horde before him.
His arms burned from exertion. His vision was blurry from the lack of air, and his throat was parched. He sported several scratch marks on his entire body, and his whole face was pale, looking extremely weak.
Despite all of this, Godwyn gritted his teeth and persisted. He lifted his bow and shot another volley of arrows. All of them hit their marks perfectly, but it barely affected the marching horde towards him.
"Damn it!" He cursed.
His legs were weak. He had been running constantly for nearly half an hour without stopping by now. He's tired, and it shows. Even though it barely affected his aim, it most definitely hindered him from dealing with the zombie horde before him.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Tick! Tick! Dong!!
"God fucking damn it!" Godwyn snarled in frustration.
The horde just got visibly stronger, and their spawn rate increased. This change was like a direct mockery of his weakness. It pushed him to the brink of despair and gnawed at the false confidence he built for himself.
Who would've ever thought that with his innate blessings, all of that training, and being lucky to receive a strong class template, it was still not enough to handle this threat?
He thought that he had completely prepared himself for this. He had known that this would be what they would face, and he trained hard for it. He had all the resources available to increase his chances of clearing this trial, yet his preparation proved to be insufficient in the end.
It's not that he's weak, because that's simply not true. For a Tier 1 Level 1 Superhuman, Godwyn and his brothers are simply monstrous existences. It's just that this trial was simply too difficult that it makes him feel that none of it mattered.
'He's going to surpass his father' he says. 'He'd surprise him and prove to him that he's his son' he says. Now, those declarations seem silly to him when faced with this seemingly insurmountable challenge.
Godwyn thought too highly of himself. Unknowingly, his feet started lifting from the ground, and he became overly confident of his skills, and now he's paying for it.
The shame and humiliation burned him from within. It angered him so much that he's lost his composure completely. Still, with whatever he had left, Godwyn shot arrows upon the creeping horde despite not seeing any hope of even making a dent to their growing numbers.
Snap! Pop!
Yet, as if mocking him some more, Godwyn's bow gave out. It broke completely, turning into a useless piece of junk.
Godwyn's heart sank to his stomach. Anxiety mounted his heart, and despair was threatening to swallow him whole. In his desperate attempt to save himself, he started chucking arrows with his hand. And while his throws remained accurate, they lacked the sheer strength to do any real damage to his enemies, making it a waste of time and effort.
It was then that Godwyn felt a cold and dry touch on his shoulders. Alarmed, he looked back and was horrified to be greeted by the open maw of a zombie who spawned so close to him without his knowledge.
Godwyn screamed in terror, and in pure adrenaline, he stabbed the zombie with the arrows he was holding. He managed to kill it, but it didn't solve his problems because another one came up.
Before he knew it, he was completely surrounded. He had nowhere to run. The zombies have him now, and they won't let go of him.
Godwyn cried and screamed in terror. He begged for his parents to save him, yet they didn't come. He cried even harder when he felt the first set of jaws chewing through his flesh. The pain was unbearable; it's unlike anything he had felt before.
'I'm going to die! ' Godwyn screamed inwardly. He kept looking to the sky, reaching out, begging for someone to save him, yet all he could feel was the coldness of death touching him as his thoughts turned increasingly blurry.
'I don't want to die.' Godwyn cried out before he completely lost his consciousness.

Gasp!!!
Godwyn awoke with a gasp, nerves alight, and instincts screaming. He struggled, punched, kicked, and cried out in sheer rage due to overstimulation.
Then, a wave of piercing clarity struck him, forcibly calming him down. He then discovered that he's alive. His entire body was intact. He then noticed that he wasn't in hell anymore. The zombies that were eating away at his body were nowhere to be seen.
He's inside a brightly lit room adorned with paintings and other trinkets.
Godwyn's throat was parched. His lips trembled, and a few drops of tears cascaded from the corners of his eyes. His legs felt weak, but he's mostly relieved that he seemed to be in a sage environment.
He looked around him and saw a pair of beds next to his. He also saw the familiar faces of his brothers. Gerald had his arms stretched out towards him, flowing with an intense blue light.
'Oh, Frostburn effect.' Godwyn's mind helpfully supplied. It turns out that Gerald used a spell on him, and the passive effect of his Forstfire Mastery was just the thing that calmed him down.
He looked at the faces of his brothers and felt the urge to cry again. It seems that the immersion was so strong that he actually felt that he was dying just now. It also seems that he wasn't the only one who suffered from this after seeing their faces.

Gerald awoke to a similar state as he was. He actually had it worse since he's the first one to wake up, and he didn't have anybody to calm him down like he did to Gil and Gwyn.
Gilderoy wasn't any better. He too woke up screaming, crying, and fighting for his life. He even threw up shortly after. Seeing him throw up made Gerald throw up as well.
Realizing that he's back in the real world and that no harm will ever come close to him here made Godwyn feel weaker. His legs wobbled as he crawled to his bed and covered his body with the sheets.
But not even a second later, he subconsciously reacted violently at the sensation of the sheets on his skin, making him throw it to the nearest wall in fright.
Even the innocuous blanket reminded him of the cold and dry touch of the undead on his body before they proceeded to eat him alive.
Godwyn shivered and hugged himself in fear. He curled up to the bed and refused to show his face to his friends as he silently shed tears.
The Hell Dive was too traumatizing for them. No amount of setup could ever prepare them for it. And to think that it would be a staple to their lives as Superhumans from now on makes them regret experiencing the awakening ceremony.
Gilderoy and Gerald were dumb. From the way Godwyn's shoulders shook and the quiet sniffles he's emitting, they can tell that he's crying. And seeing their usually upbeat and energetic brother reduced to this state made them cry too.
"Shhh, it's okay, champ. Cry it out, Mama's here." Erica's voice sounded in Godwyn's ears, accompanied by a warm and comforting touch that promised security.
Godwyn latched onto her without a moment of hesitation and cried his heart out.
It was unknown when and how, but their mothers appeared next to them soundlessly. The women had wore sad smiles on their faces as they embraced their children in their bosom and allowed them to release all of their frustrations.
Despite calling themselves big boys now, they were reduced to frightened little chicks when faced with their mothers. They need not to say much; just their presence alone makes everything better.
The state of their children reminds them of their very first experience in Hell Dives too. In this, their boys already did much better than they were. They reacted so much worse than them. Especially since, back then, every death felt so real, so much more so because demons were also real in that time.
The realness and terror of the Hell Dives have already been lowered since the liberation. However, these kids wouldn't understand that since they weren't born from this era. And no matter what, they're kids who grew up in times of peace. It's understandable that they will react this way.
Cedric would be here, but he wasn't. According to him, the kids will feel much better if it's them who shows up. Besides, Cedric would be at a loss too if he were here.
After all, he didn't have anybody when he went on his first Hell Dive. Nobody comforted him when he woke up, just like his boys did. He was forced to deal with all of this trauma alone, so, frankly, he had no idea how he should go on comforting them. That's why he thought that it would be better if his wives did it instead.
'But you boys are strong. This little setback surely won't affect you that much. I believe in you.'
