Chapter 611 - 610: Two Devils

Chapter 611: Chapter 610: Two Devils

“Senior Brother, everyone is preparing to go to the Imperial Palace to participate in the Ten Thousand Realms Exploration Festival, shouldn’t we be heading there as well? The festival starts tomorrow.”

At the edge of the Great Wei Dynasty, deep in the mountains, the old trees are knotted with roots and lush foliage blocks out the sun, creating a pervasive chill that drops the temperature significantly compared to the outside of the mountains.

Two disciples of the Corpse-Driving Sect walk within, feeling no discomfort whatsoever.

The environment of their sect is even more somber than this.

“What’s there to fear? We’re only half a day away from the Imperial Palace. Even if we finish exploring this ancient tomb first, we’ll still be able to make it on time.”

“But I haven’t heard of any ancient tombs here. The methods taught by our sect do not consider this place a suitable resting place for the deceased.”

Senior Brother’s lips curl up in a mysterious smile, “Not suitable for burials? That only means the one who was buried here was not of high enough stature. The height of the mountain is irrelevant if the mountain is renowned for harboring an Immortal. If a powerful figure is buried here, this place will become a suitable burial site no matter what.”

The Junior Brother’s eyes widened, and his lips trembled, “You’re saying that a powerful figure is buried here?”

“Just two days ago, I happened upon this place and sensed a hint of Heavenly Machine. The lingering obsession of the tomb’s owner, unwilling to have his legacy buried in obscurity, wants to find a destined person to bring his legacy to light. I speculate that there lies a figure of the Transcendance Tribulation Stage!”

“After confirming the location, I thought that our combined strength would be limited, so I brought you along.”

The Junior Brother shrunk his neck a little: “But Senior Brother, shouldn’t the exploration of the tomb of someone of the Transcendance Tribulation Stage be handled by someone of Elder rank? We won’t even glimpse the coffin if we lose our lives in the process.”

“Let’s scout out the place first. Discovering a tomb and discovering a tomb and then exploring part of it are different when accumulating contribution points for the sect.”

The two carefully ventured deeper into the cave, using the Night-viewing spell, concentrating their spiritual power into their eyes, enabling them to clearly see the structure of the tomb in the dark.

The cave’s walls had paintings of mythical beasts, so lifelike they looked as if they could jump out of the wall and roar at any second.

The terracotta soldiers were arranged in orderly lines, weapons at the ready, they seemed like they were waiting for an inspection by an ancient ruler.

Looking up, a massive and terrifying ghost was branded on the ceiling, baring its fangs and claws, as though the mythical creatures on the walls were nothing more than its prey.

The Junior Brother felt goosebumps all over his body under the gaze of the terrifying ghost, feeling like a terrible and ominous thing would happen to him.

The Senior Brother, however, didn’t seem to care much. He was fixated on the weapons in the hands of the terracotta soldiers, a glint in his eyes. This was a golden opportunity.

He bowed before one of the soldier figures, muttering phrases about separating the world of the living from the dead while merely wanting to acquire some opportunities, asking for the permission of the tomb’s owner.

“Huh? The weapon is held tight, I can’t pull it.”

After several unsuccessful attempts, the Senior Brother concluded that the tomb’s owner was reluctant to let them take anything, and had no choice but to give up.

Suddenly, one of the terracotta soldiers slightly shifted, startling the Senior Brother, who promptly assumed a defensive posture.

The Junior Brother also prepared himself to run away at any moment.

“I didn’t expect to encounter living beings here.”

The voice of the terracotta soldier was surprisingly young, sounding like a person in their twenties. As the soldier stepped out of the line, his appearance matched his voice, looking like someone in his twenties.

“Don’t be tense, my name is Mo Li, like you, I’m also here to explore the tomb,” Mo Li chuckled casually, displaying the confidence of someone skilled enough to explore this tomb alone.

“Judging by your attire, you seem to be disciples of the Corpse-Driving Sect. What a coincidence, I also have some ties with the Corpse-Driving Sect.”

The Junior Brother cautiously asked, “Are you one of our client of the Corpse-Driving Sect?”

One of the services provided by the Corpse-Driving Sect was essentially loaning out corpses to living clients. The clients would borrow Spirit Stones from the sect and repay the debt when they are able to. If they died without repaying the debt, their corpses would be left to the Corpse-Driving Sect.

“Our relationship is a bit deeper than that.”

Seeing that Mo Li didn’t seem eager to delve further into the topic, the Senior Brother changed the subject: “Brother Mo Li, do you know anything about this tomb?”

“I have a fair understanding of it.”

“I happened upon some mention of it in some old records. Legend has it that a great Demon lies buried here, whose power was unparalleled and whose magic shook the heavens. He had cultivated the ‘Demonizing Ancient Art’ to its peak. Merely walking on the earth was enough to turn a Buddhist Pure Land into a land of demons!”

“That terrifying?!” Both the Senior and Junior Brother shuddered at the thought. From the sounds of it, this Demon should at least be of the Immortal level.

Mo Li nodded vigorously, “It’s much more terrifying than that. He’s a being that’s too horrifying to be described.”

“To truly understand the origin of this tomb, we have to go back to the internal conflict between two demons in the Immortal Realm twenty thousand years ago.”

“Twenty thousand years ago, there were two immensely talented Demons in the Immortal Realm, one male and one female. The male Demon was a natural-born seed of evil, with a mind that was different from the norm. He was wild and untamed, filled with arrogance, often surprising others with his actions.”

“The female Demon was heartless and merciless. She wielded the Devouring Sky Immortal Gourd and controlled calamities with unmatched combat power among her peers.”

“The two of them fought from the Immortal Realm to the Nine Provinces, tearing apart the Void. Whoever saw them would scurry away. In the end, the female Demon proved to be superior and suppressed the male Demon, sealing him here.”

“Even though he was suppressed, the male Demon continued to resist. The horrifying ghost branded on the ceiling is one of his methods.”

“If there were imprints of the terrifying ghost all around the cave, the male Demon would have broken free. Unfortunately for him, he failed to unseal himself.”

“Did you notice the murals on the wall? That’s the means of the female Demon. She possessed profound knowledge of painting and had the ability to breathe life into her paintings. If any unsuspecting individuals were to intrude, these mythical creatures would spring to life from the walls and tear the intruder to pieces!”

The two brothers shivered and were grateful they did not trigger any mechanism.

“Sealing off the tomb using blood and flesh…what a terrifying method.”

“Wait, won’t our exploration possibly aid in breaking the Demon’s seal and bring disaster upon the Nine Provinces?” The Senior Brother intended to leave with his Junior Brother. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Mo Li, however, seemed unworried about this possibility, “Don’t be afraid. The seal is robust and it’s unlikely that we three at the Golden Core Stage would be able to break it. Besides, the male Demon once tried to deceive cultivators into helping him break the seal by hiding numerous treasures within the tomb. As long as we hold onto our dao hearts and are not deceived by the male Demon, nothing will happen if we just take the treasures and leave.”

Seeing Mo Li speaking with confidence, the two brothers believed him somewhat and decided to explore the Demon’s Ancient Tomb with him.

“May I ask, Brother Mo Li, what are the names of the male and female Demons?”

Mo Li shook his head, “The names of these two Demons are taboo and cannot be spoken out loud. However, I can tell you their honorifics.”

“Please inform us, Brother Mo Li.”

“These two Demons were well-known adversaries and their honorifics were a complete contrast to their gender.”

“The female Demon was called the Black Sky King.”

“Then the male Demon… ”

“Is called the White Sky King.”

The expressions of the two brothers turned peculiar. The honorific of the female Demon was domineering, but the male Demon…it kind of felt like a dawn was breaking?

The cave began to shake, making it seem like the male Demon was awakening, displeased with his honorific.
