Chapter 607: Chapter 606: How to Use the Six Paths Seal?
When Jiang Li and Yu Yin finally found the Immortal Elder, he was an amusing sight, lounging in a rocking chair, neck arched back, engrossed in a book.
Jiang Li decided that the Immortal Elder had officially transitioned into his retirement life.
“Elder, we’re back.”
“Where’s Bai Hongtu?” The Immortal Elder noted that one person was missing from their trio.
“He got lost and is trapped in an ancient tomb.”
“Oh, is he in danger?” The Immortal Elder seemed genuinely concerned about his disciple.
“He won’t die.”
“That’s fine then.” The Immortal Elder’s concern for Bian Hongtu, it seemed, had its limits.
Back when Bai Hongtu was a young follower, he displayed a talent surpassing that of normal mortals. The elder generation of Dao Sect and the Immortal Elder had deliberated and decided there was no need to discipline him excessively and instead, allowed him to grow freely.
Thus, their attitude towards Bai Hongtu was: as long as he’s alive, it’s fine.
“We’ve made another significant discovery, but we have some issues and want to know the Immortal Elder’s opinion.”
Jiang Li released his divine skills, replicating the thirty-six occurrences of the Black Tide phenomenon that they had discovered in the observation room.
“So, the respected God-hidden was damaged like this, only the lower half remains.”
“No doubt about it, the thirty-fourth occurrence led us to the Immortal Realm. I believe it’s in the east, guarded by the True Dragon race.”
The Immortal Elder’s sharp gaze and observations, even from the outside, managed to determine the location within the Immortal realm.
“As for the Black Tide you mentioned, I don’t know much, there isn’t much record about it in the Immortal Realm either. I encountered something like this once in Kyushu about 18,000 years ago while strolling through the universe; a little black dot appeared out of nowhere and then abruptly disappeared.”
“I remember roughly ten similar incidents off the top of my head.”
“For example, about 100,000 years ago, Immortal King Kong Ming was travelling through the void and encountered a black sphere about the size of a fist. Before the Immortal King could make sense of it, the black sphere disappeared, and the experience was recorded in his travel notes.”
“Then 140,000 years ago, Arhat Budai lent his sack to a friend, but when it was returned, the sack had a hole. According to the friend, it was damaged by a small black dot. However, Arhat Budai didn’t believe him and thought his friend was lying – that he had damaged it while practicing spells. This disagreement resulted in their fallout. Most immortals believed the friend to be a liar.”
“Then 170,000 years ago…”
“And 210,000 years ago…”
The Immortal Elder effortlessly rattled off these ancient tales as if recounting cherished historical records.
“These scattered tales are only found in notes of immortal beings. I doubt anyone would connect them as a single phenomenon. If you had not mentioned, I wouldn’t have noticed their association.”
“Even if someone connected them, they wouldn’t be able to discern any pattern. Have you noticed that the records about the Black Tide are very limited, even the details regarding its appearance are excluded.”
“It’s quite absurd how the history of the Immortal Realm stretches back to unknown times, yet their knowledge of the Black Tide phenomenon is learnt from a civilization that only appeared a mere 10,000 years ago.”
“The Observer’s World, it’s a truly remarkable civilization.”
“As it stands, the Black Tide is something the Immortal Realm will need to confront.”
“Back when there was a stairway to become an Immortal, the Immortal Realm was connected by it and any movement could not escape the perception of the Heavenly Dao. So, the Heavenly Dao would certainly have the most clear understanding of the Black Tide’s pattern. Even if others don’t know, the Heavenly Dao definitely knows.”
“I can’t help with much beyond this.”
Seemingly realising something, the Immortal said, “Wait, aren’t you able to visit the Underworld? Maybe the Earth Queen knows something; after all, she is a Primordial Immortal.”
“That might work.” Jiang Li turned his palm, revealing a mark given to him by the Earth Queen, named Six Paths Seal, which allows him to visit the Underworld directly without faking his death.
“But how do I use this?”
Jiang Li widened his eyes, emitting sacred golden light all over himself. With a loud yell, he sharply pushed out his palm.
“Six Paths Seal!”
But nothing happened.
The Immortal Elder and Yu Yin blinked their eyes. They felt Jiang Li seemed to have inherited some troubling condition from Bai Hongtu.
…
The Underworld.
The Rarely-working Earth Queen was encouraging the Yama Kings, motivating them not to let their superiors down.
Suddenly, the Six Paths Seal on her brow flickered, and it was followed by a massive surge of mysterious power that flung her backwards.
King Qinguang was the first to react: “The Queen is under attack and might meet an accident. Yama, you should be the next Lord of the Underworld. Remember, it was I who recommended you to be the Lord of the Underworld, so you must approve my leaves in the future!”
Yama looked at King Qinguang and whispered, “Qinguang, why don’t you look behind you?”
King Qinguang turned around to see a pleasantly smiling Earth Queen and demurely standing Jiang Li.
After giving King Qinguang a good scolding, the Earth Queen sighed towards Jiang Li.
“The Six Paths Seal is my unique spell and I can feel the power you’ve bestowed upon it.”
“I should take the blame for not teaching you how to use the Six Paths Seal.”
“But, oh, it really hurt.”
Touching her forehead, the Earth Queen sighed, still reeling from the impact.
When she was hit with the energy from the Six Paths Seal, she quickly realised that Jiang Li was attempting to use the Six Paths Seal to visit the Underworld. Fearing another hit, she immediately brought Jiang Li over.
“What brings you here?”
Jiang Li recounted his experiences and observations from the Observer’s Civlization.
Upon hearing this, the Earth Queen’s expression grew grave as she pulled out the original Book of Life and Death. She browsed through the records of the Observer’s Civilization’s deaths from six hundred years ago, her eyebrows furrowing.
“Indeed, after being consumed by the so-called Black Tide, those people couldn’t even reincarnate. Their records of death don’t exist in the Book of Life and Death.”
“I don’t know much about the Black Tide. However, I agree with Entropy Lord’s point of view – the Black Tide is filled with uncertainty. Also, at points along the River of Time where possibilities gather, it corresponds to the three basic laws of space, time and possibility.”
“Now that I think about it, I had asked Heavenly Dao many times why the world was destroyed after the Dao Ancestor died, but he always avoided the question. Only once he sighed and said he might’ve been too self-righteous, and even though he couldn’t think of a solution, he didn’t want the Heavenly Dao to end the world.”
“The Dao Ancestor must’ve known about the Black Tide, but for unknown reasons, he didn’t share it with me. Did he think I was going to side with the Heavenly Dao?” The Earth Queen was puzzled, not understanding why.
Realising he wasn’t going to get the answer he needed from the Earth Queen, Jiang Li prepared to leave.
The Earth Queen quickly stopped Jiang Li.
“Wait.”n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“What else?”
“I’ll teach you how to properly use the Six Paths Seal so you won’t hit me with it again.”
…
“Have you learned it now?”
Jiang Li nodded his head and cautiously sent out a palm strike, causing the Earth Queen to be thrown off her feet again.
“Let me try again.”
“Wait! Let me first move the Six Paths Seal to another location.”
The Earth Queen shifted the Six Paths Seal from her forehead to her palm, so even if Jiang Li sent his power through it, she wouldn’t be sent flying again.
After a few more attempts, Jiang Li finally grasped how to use the Six Paths Seal, and the Earth Queen, now at ease, bid him farewell.
