CEO's Runaway Mate and Her Cubs

Chapter 531 Their story

The reporter was flabbergasted by Nate's soft side. No one had seen him so sweet before, and she felt honoured to be first to report about his love life.

The interview would turn out even better than expected. She could imagine all the women squealing at the discreet displays of affection of the couple, including how they held hands or exchanged glances from time to time. Someone would definitely notice how Nate would protectively say something every time he felt Lara was threatened by the questions, making it even more obvious how smitten he was.

The public always enjoyed a good love story. Even more when it was complemented by drama and obstacles.

«I'd like to ask a difficult question, right now,» the journalist said. «There are talks about Miss Clayton's relationship with your birth family. What is the truth? Do you still have contacts with your parents?»

«I don't,» Lara said. «I haven't talked with my father since when I was sent out of home. As for my mother, she did try contacting me recently... But I don't feel like accepting her offer of peace,» she said. «I might be an ungrateful daughter, but I can't do it right now.»

«Did she know you were dating Nate Woods when she cut all ties?»

«No, no one knew,» Lara said.

«You kept the secret,» the journalist said. «You could have everything if you told the world you were carrying his babies. Why struggling for years?»

«I can answer that question,» Nate said. «When we met, I was going through a difficult period. My father had just died, I was taking charge of the company, and there was an economical crisis worldwide. I wish I gave priority to look for Lara, back then. She didn't know who I was, by the way. I haven't told her my identity.»

«So, it's your fault if she couldn't tell you about the twins? That's a plot twist, Mr Woods.»

«It is. I understand now that it was wrong, but back then I just wanted to be with her. Everyone would look at me with envy or piety, at that time. But not Lara. She only saw the man, in me.»

With that talk, he had erased every chance they would write more about Lara's motives and whatnot. He was at fault for their distance, period.

And he hadn't lied, all things considered. He had preferred to be with Lara as mates, forgetting to tell her his name at all.

How long that had lasted, it wasn't relevant. One night or a thousand, it meant nothing.

«I'm so happy life gave us a chance to start again,» he added.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

The journalist's dumbfounded face passed unnoticed to the two lovebirds. They were talking about drama! Why giving then yet another display of their love when all people wanted to know were the juicy details of how her parents disowned her, not knowing their grandchildren would be Woods's heirs.

Steven Clayton had made the wrong choice by forgetting about his daughter and focusing on his son. The real chicken with golden eggs, in that family, was Lara.

Oh, but they had got enough drama for a while. Gracelyn Clayton was trying to rebuild ties with Lara after the news she was dating Nate Woods. Just like the villain family of any drama in TV.

«Returning to your parents, there have been articles about you on many magazines or tabloids. For some of them, the source was your mother, Grace Clayton. She even gave a picture of yours to the press.»

«I knew nothing about it. Not until I saw the picture... Nate didn't want to tell me even if he kept the situation under control. He knows it pains me to remember my family, so he avoids talking about it if it's not relevant. That picture is also to thank if you found out about my kids. My son wished to have a copy of a picture of mine, but I have none with me.

So, we went looking for a copy of that magazine.»

The more Lara talked, the clearer it was that Gracelyn was acting on her own. She was trying to get recognition and reputation using a daughter she didn't want to hear anything about.

«You didn't bring your pictures with you?» the reporter asked. She enjoyed that kind of detail. It would make the whole story more heartbreaking.

The audience loved tears, after all. And they could cry after hearing about it. The interview would be even more watched than anticipated. She would see with the manager to put it on their side after it's aired on TV.

«Have you ever thought of getting revenge?» she asked. «Your family abandoned you. How do you feel now that you have the power to hurt them?»

«I don't want revenge,» Lara said. «I have my family to take care of, now. I have no time for regrets and what-ifs. And the power to hurt them is not mine but Nate's. I won't use him for this; he doesn't deserve it.»

So, not only Nate Woods was smitten in that couple.

«Since the Clayton family decided to ignore us, we'll do the same,» Nate said. «We have no reason to seek revenge because they simply aren't part of our life. We have no ties, and so we will act in the future as well.»

He didn't need to say that he would have taken revenge by himself if only there was a way of doing it without making Lara notice. But she would have remembered the hardest times and suffered. It was not worth it.

«As for the date of the wedding,» he added, making it clear the interview was over, «we'll inform you when we decide. But we'll have a private ceremony with no press. We like keeping our private moments - private.»

«We figured already you would do so,» the reporter laughed. «Sometimes, it's harder to get you admit something from your private life than a business secret. Thank you for this interview. We appreciate you chose our TV station, and we'll do our best to give your version a fair display.»
