Chapter 6: Fire Fang Dog
Soon, the Fire Fang Dog vanished within the glowing star formation.
In an instant, the blank pages of the Beastmaster’s Codex in Qiao Sang’s mind suddenly lit up, and a lifelike image of the Fire Fang Dog appeared on them.
At the same time, more information filled the previously empty section of the Codex:
Name: Fire Fang Dog
Attribute: Fire
Level: Beginner (63/1000)+
Skills: Bite (Beginner 73/100)+, Charge (Intermediate 133/500)+, Fire Fang (Beginner 1/100)+
Points: 0
These simple and easy-to-understand lines appeared clearly before Qiao Sang.
She was stunned.Did the Beastmaster’s Codex ever introduce such things?
She didn’t think so. From what she remembered, the Codex was only supposed to serve as a contract and a space to store pet beasts. It was nothing like this kind of system.
But Qiao Sang wasn’t entirely sure of her memory because the original owner of her body was a poor student with many knowledge gaps.
However… maybe, just maybe, this really is my golden finger!
Qiao Sang suppressed her excitement and formed the seal to summon the Fire Fang Dog.
The next second, a white star formation appeared on the ground, and starlight gathered around it. The Fire Fang Dog appeared, looking excited.
“Yap!” The Fire Fang Dog barked at Qiao Sang.
Because of the contract, Qiao Sang could easily understand her pet beast's intentions.
It wanted to try entering the Codex again.
Qiao Sang smiled indulgently and formed the seal to return the Fire Fang Dog to the Codex.
As soon as it went in, the Fire Fang Dog started barking to be let out again.
Qiao Sang complied. The moment the Fire Fang Dog reappeared, it happily wagged its red tail.
“Yap!”
Qiao Sang chuckled and sent it back into the Codex.
Then, she let it out again.
The Fire Fang Dog blinked its black eyes.
“Yap!”
Qiao Sang’s smile stiffened slightly. She hesitated but still returned it to the Codex.
When it reappeared, the Fire Fang Dog gazed at her with eyes full of anticipation.
“Yap!” It wanted to play more!
Qiao Sang: “...”
When Ye Xiangting returned, she found her daughter repeatedly forming seals, one moment sending the Fire Fang Dog back into the Codex, the next moment letting it out again.
Ye Xiangting asked in confusion, “Sang Sang, what are you doing?”
Qiao Sang replied expressionlessly, “I’m playing.”
---
Qiao Sang didn’t go straight home after leaving the Hanggang Pet Beast Base; instead, she made a stop at the Hanggang Beastmaster Center.
According to the Alliance's regulations, every pet beast contracted by a Beastmaster must be registered at a Beastmaster Center within seven working days.
In this era, you can’t just contract a pet beast and bring it home to raise without any concerns.
First, you have to register your pet beast; otherwise, it will be considered unregistered.
Human cities prohibit wild extraordinary creatures from entering.
If a pet beast is unregistered and gets caught, it will be treated as a wild extraordinary creature and taken away by the Inspection Department.
It’s not uncommon for wild extraordinary creatures to attack humans.
In fact, the news frequently reports incidents of humans being attacked by these creatures.
To ensure human safety, especially for those ordinary people whose brain domains haven't awakened, the Alliance has strictly prohibited the presence of wild extraordinary creatures in cities.
However, extraordinary creatures vary in type, each possessing mysterious powers.
Beast-type extraordinary creatures are easier to detect, but creatures like spirits or ghosts can be very difficult to spot if they hide.
Thus, the Alliance established the Inspection Department specifically to deal with these situations.
From the Hanggang Pet Beast Base, a quick detour leads directly to the Hanggang Beastmaster Center, making it a convenient stop on the way home.
At the turn where she made the detour, her mother, who was riding her Faithful Owl, went ahead, saying she had something to take care of, and left Qiao Sang with their family’s Fat Dove for transportation.
By the time Qiao Sang arrived at the Hanggang Beastmaster Center, it was already 11:32 AM, leaving only 28 minutes before the center closed.
Unlike brain domain detection registration, where only one window is available, there were 16 windows open for information registration.
Qiao Sang took a number and found a seat to wait.
The Fat Dove stood quietly beside her, keeping watch, while the Fire Fang Dog lay in her arms, its eyes darting around, clearly curious about its surroundings.
"Number 06556, please proceed to Window 12."
"Number 06556, please proceed to Window 12."
Qiao Sang glanced at the number in her hand: 06557. She then checked the time—11:52 AM.
It seemed she wouldn’t be called this morning.
"Number 06557, please proceed to Window 12."
It appeared that 06556 hadn’t shown up, so they called Qiao Sang’s number instead.
Qiao Sang quickly stood up, holding the Fire Fang Dog. It seemed her luck was good today.
At Window 12, a young man with a buzz cut was handling registrations.
"Hello, how can I help you?"
Qiao Sang pulled out her information card and handed it over. "I’m here to register my pet beast."
The young man took the card and placed it on the scanner. After a moment, he said, "I’m sorry, but it shows here that you’re not a registered Beastmaster, so you can’t register your pet beast."
Qiao Sang was taken aback. "Then I’ll register as a Beastmaster first."
The young man replied, "Please provide your brain domain certification."
It was Qiao Sang’s first time registering as a Beastmaster, so she didn’t know she needed that.
"I didn’t bring it," Qiao Sang said helplessly.
She then lifted the Fire Fang Dog in her hands. "Doesn’t this prove I’m a Beastmaster?"
The young man glanced at the time on his computer—11:58 AM. "No, it doesn’t."
"Why not?" Qiao Sang asked, confused.
A woman’s impatient voice came from behind. "Are you done yet? If you don’t have everything, move aside."
Qiao Sang turned around and saw a girl wearing a Union Beastmaster High School uniform standing behind her.
The girl gave Qiao Sang a dismissive glance. She had narrow, upward-slanting eyes that made others uncomfortable when she looked down at them.
Seeing that Qiao Sang hadn’t responded, the girl stepped around her and handed her number slip to the young man.
"I’m number 06556, ahead of her. Handle mine first; I need to update my pet beast’s information."
Qiao Sang frowned and started to step aside. Though the girl's attitude was annoying, she indeed didn’t have all her documents.
The young man with the buzz cut refused the girl’s request, saying, "If you miss your number, you’ll have to wait for a new one."
He then handed Qiao Sang’s information card back to her.
"Beastmaster registration requires proof and a photo for documentation."
At exactly 12:00 PM, the young man turned the sign at the window around and smiled, saying, "We’re closed for lunch. You can come back in the afternoon."
With that, he left his workstation.
Neither of them got their tasks done, but Qiao Sang didn’t mind; it was just a convenient stop on her way home anyway.
However, the girl in the high school uniform frowned.
"This is all your fault! If it weren’t for you, I would’ve been done by now."
Qiao Sang stood up to leave.
A hand stopped her.
"Hey, didn’t you hear me talking to you?"
Qiao Sang looked around, confused, and asked, "Are you talking to me?"
"Is there anyone else here?" The girl’s narrow, slanted eyes widened in anger.
Just then, a couple of passersby walked by quietly.
