Chapter 177 Qiqi and Kaka
Early the next morning!
Fang Ye finished his breakfast and arrived at the quarantine area, ready to check on how Qiqi and Kaka were doing, and to familiarize himself with them and build a closer rapport.
Lions are top predators, incredibly fierce; if he were to interact with them capriciously just because he had skills, it might end badly if a lion got unhappy and lost control enough to strike him with a paw—that would be dangerous.
Like the time he broke up a fight between Black Claws and White Brow—both were furiously unreconcilable, and he had to scare Black Claws using a slipper persistently until the lion reluctantly ran away.
Skills are not omnipotent!
If he wanted to pet the lions, he certainly had to first build a relationship, making sure they were comfortable with him.
The first time he interacted with Jiaojiao, the original keeper had already been feeding her meat for a long time, and with this foundation, plus observing that Jiaojiao's temperament was relatively mild, Fang Ye had the courage to go ahead and stroke her.
Now, as the lions had just arrived, they were not in a very good mood, especially Qiqi, who was extremely angry yesterday, roaring non-stop, so he needed to be extra careful. Find exclusive stories on empire
That's why today Fang Ye planned to first feed them some meat!
Being fed by someone usually means that person is good, isn't that a simple concept for animals?
"Good morning, Director!" The staff at the quarantine area respectfully greeted Fang Ye upon seeing him.
Of course, there wasn't just one person like Ming in charge of the quarantine; cleaning the predator enclosures required at least two staff members. Ming had been promoted to team leader of this area.
With so many animals arriving recently, it might even be necessary to transfer a couple of animal keepers here soon.
While walking inside, Fang Ye inquired, "How are the snakes and lizards faring? Did the two lions that arrived yesterday show any abnormal behavior? Any hostility toward each other or anything else?"
Ming scratched his head: "There are a few that won't eat; it's unclear whether it's a health issue or they're not acclimatizing well. We've reported it to the veterinarian. There's no hostility among the lions, but they're quite aggressive towards the staff and don't like people getting close. Today we were worrying about how to move them to clean their cages.
But with you here, Director, there definitely won't be any problem!"
After giving a few words of encouragement, Fang Ye cautioned, "Taking care of these animals requires meticulous attention to detail, especially the predators. Safety is paramount. With many more animals set to arrive, don't let the rush cause negligence."
"Yes, yes!" Ming nodded repeatedly in agreement.
Fang Ye asked, "Is the meat for the lions ready?"
"It hasn't arrived yet, but it should be here in a little while!"
"Alright, once the meat arrives, give it to me and I'll guide them to the different cages."
When he reached the isolation room, he found Qiqi lying on her side on the floor, eyes closed, sound asleep. Her thick, light brown body heaved gently with deep, rhythmic purring sounds, like that of an engine just turned on.
A ring of dense brownish-yellow mane surrounded her head, and even in sleep, she looked majestic.
The other lion, Kaka, was lying on the ground, with his enormous paws folded in front of his chest. He had a serious lion face, attentively watching outside, guarding his sibling.
On seeing Fang Ye arrive, Kaka immediately let out a low growl of warning.
It seemed to be a message for him to keep his distance!
After resting for a day, they should be somewhat accustomed to the environment here and not as temperamental, right?
Fang Ye guessed to himself, Eye of Observation!
[Mood: Wary
Aggressiveness: Low]
First, he squatted down, adopting a low stance to lower the lions' wariness, and said softly to Kaka's vigilant eyes, "Hello there, I've come to see you~"
Kaka curiously inspected him. This person squatting on the ground seemed different from the other bipeds. He wasn't sure why, but he felt that this human posed no danger and wasn't so repellent to him as a lion.
So it stopped roaring at him.
Hidden under the thick mane, Qiqi's ears twitched as it opened its eyes to see Fang Ye, and it propped up its upper body. Its amber eyes stared deeply at him, raised its head, and with equal discontent, it roared!
The roar rolled like muffled thunder.
Of course, Fang Ye wasn't so easily scared, a smile appeared on his face, and he gently waved at Qiqi, "Young man, awake now?"
[Mood: Upset
Aggression: Medium!]
Qiqi had actually heard his footsteps coming earlier, but with his brother on lookout and enjoying a deep sleep, he didn't want to be disturbed to wake up.
But after Kaka roared, not only did this annoying little fly not leave, it was still here, grinning merrily.
This was simply a disdain for its majesty!
After a loud roar, Qiqi suddenly leaped up from the ground, baring its teeth with a ferocious look, and pounced toward the iron bars, bringing a chilling evil wind with it.
"Clang!"
Its paw, larger than a human head, slapped the bars with a loud noise, causing Fang Ye's scalp to tingle, and even with the protection of the bars, he instinctively closed his eyes.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Roar!!!
Qiqi roared again, seemingly pleased with the outcome, looking imposing and majestic.
Having lived in the zoo for so long, it knew it couldn't break through these iron bars!
It was just to scare Fang Ye a bit, to show him how upset it was, and to tell him to get lost quickly.
Kaka looked towards Qiqi, apparently somewhat puzzled by his brother's behavior. Was it really necessary to be so ferocious after just one roar?
It lifted its head, opened its wide mouth, and lazily yawned while squinting its eyes.
Turning its head towards Kaka, Qiqi, seemingly contagious, opened its mouth wide and yawned too.
Lions yawn after waking up or before feeding! Through this, they ensure that there's enough oxygen in their blood.
After yawning, Qiqi felt somewhat better, lay back down on the ground, and eyed Fang Ye.
In its head, it was probably pondering when this human would leave so it could continue sleeping.
At this point, Fang Ye let out a sigh, looking resigned as he said with a wry smile, "Was it necessary to frighten me like that!"
He released an affable skill!
Immediately, Qiqi and Kaka's gaze toward him changed, as if they were somewhat puzzled—how could a human give them a sense of kinship?
Now Fang Ye could observe the two lions closely, staying here without being attacked!
After observing them for a while, he found that the two lions were quite easy to tell apart. Qiqi's mane was longer and denser, the hair on top of his head and around his cheeks was amber, the mane on his chest was off-white, and the mane that went from his neck to his front legs and back was brownish-black.
As for Kaka, its mane wasn't as distinctively layered as Qiqi's, it was mostly light yellow, with a patch of light black near the center behind the neck and close to the front legs.
If one were to describe the styling and temperament of the two lions, Qiqi would be a rock superstar wearing sunglasses and extravagant hairstyles, dressed in edgy fashion, whereas Kaka would be a simple-dressed, clean-cut, basketball-holding sunny boy.
At this moment, Ming came over with a bucket filled with meat!
Smelling the meat, Kaka immediately sat up straight, lifted its head to look hopeful toward the bucket, while Qiqi seemed impatient, glaring rudely at Ming and roaring at him, as if it was saying, "Put my meat down and get out!"
